8 million for a speedy, top class winger with a ferocious shot? Good deal to me.

He's much better and cheaper than "1 season" Pederson or Downing.

The Daily Mail (who seem to be THE place to read about Spurs recently for some reason) say we're after Petrov AND Pedersen. NOt exactly sure why we would go for both of them, but better that than neither of them!

I think 8 million for Petrov is fair, very good player, Joeys description of the way he plays being the best.

People will mention his age, it merely means he'll likely have more impact from the start.

I have a really good feeling about Petrov. Assuming they're buddies from International level, it will settle him in a lot quicker to have Berba around, and could possibly even act as another reason for Berba to stay. More than that, he's a proper left footer, and a proven winger. 28 means he's just hitting his prime... granted 26 or 27 would have been better, but you need older heads out on the pitch too.

We might not always play to his strengths as it stands, but maybe with him there, this will be incorporated into our game? The important thing for me, is that it balances out the team. For too long now we've been playing on the squiff, and in so doing been far too predictable. This will stretch our play, enable us to stretch other teams, and may well bring new facets into our game.

With Bale's pace, THudd's cross-fields, Berba's knock-downs and jink-throughs, someone like Petrov could well prosper, and I've a sneaky feeling this is gonna pay off handsomly.

According to some of the other boards, The Bulgarian press is quoting Petrov's agent as saying we have opened negotiations with him. Is this the same agent as Berbatov (Dantchev)?

Lets hope he is already in Bulgaria then.

Anyway, what I have seen of Petrov I like but worried about the money being mentioned with him. With Pedersen or Downing you can pretty much make your money back if he doesn't prove as good as hoped for. While with Petrov's age and not being English he could turn into Acimovic and have to be let go on a free.

I would rather spend 8 million Pedersen if you ask me. He is proven in the Prem and would provide more tracking back than Petrov if we play with Bale at left back.

Pedersen also provides great corners and free kicks while I haven't heard much about Petrov's corners or free kicks. Pedersen is not nearly as fast as Petrov from what I have seen but we have enough pace with Lennon/Routledge on the right we need protection for the back 4 and Pedersen could provide this while I am not for sure with Petrov so I would go with the proven younger of the two players so Pedersen is my choice.

but i doubt pederson will be avialable for 8 million, blackburn would have to find a replacement and as we have found lefties are hard to come by and you must overpay, blackburn with MGP can challenge for a uefa cup posiition next year but without him they will prob have a relegation struggle on their hands, the differance in league position could be £6 million worth. they wont want to sell so we will have to make a silly offer to get them to sell, think if we offered £10 million it might be considered but to get him we might have to go to 12 or more.

gamst might not even want to join us, he along with downing has always dismissed us everytime we have been linked.

at least petrov should be available due to his contract situation.

Don't worry about that, dude, it's not our money and it wont break the THFC bank. Hell why not buy both Pedersen and Petrov and swap Defoe for Robben... yep, I'm crazy.

Fair enough point.

I would think Pedersen would be more expensive than Petrov for the reasons I have already mentioned but if we are willing to spend 8 mill on Petrov why not at least see if we can work out something along the lines of 8 million and Mido in a player exchange or 8 million and 2-3 more for appereances and so forth??

I am also not saying spurs should forget about Petrov, I think he is talented and would give us more balance in the midfield and would open things up for Jenas/Zokora in the middle too but if I had to choose between the two, even if you say Pedersen is more expensive I would still choose Pedersen, as long as the fee stays around 10 million.

I like it. Our midfield could be....

Malbranque - Robben - Petrov - Pedersen

And I bet you that if we played that midfield that Malbranque would suddenly decide that he actually is a left winger :bang:

Sure this one deal won't break Spurs but we have been pretty strict about buying young and cheap so that if the player doesn't work out like Davenport we can still move him along and lose little or gain a small profit off the player.

Petrov is a big step away from that. He is 28 and over 30 is like death in the world of footy these days so we need to continue to be smart in are transfer dealings.

Look I am not saying we should be cheap when it comes to finding a left winger but paying over the odds too often leads to trouble. Sure I don't mind if it is the right player at the right time but is Petrov the man to get us over the hump and lead us into the Champions League?? I don't know and hope that he is but I just want Spurs to really consider him before dropping 8 million pounds on him is all.

I wholeheartedly understand. I'm just a bit bored with the current lack of signings and want something to get excited about. In the board we trust.

Me too.

I do hope that Jol and company space out the transfers though. I don't want to be bored all summer and then have 4 deadline deals done but I also don't want all our deals done before July so we are just sitting and waiting on the season to start.

I'd rather get them in now and then start realistically considering the top 4. As it stands I think 5th is the best we can hope for next season... a sprinkling of the talent mentioned and my hope will be restored. I'm on this site ALL DAY at the moment, it's great for Spurs excitement (like the last bit of ITK) but potentially hazardous professionally...

lol dont get me wrong mate i would prefer gamst to petrov as he is proven but think we would have more than a 50-50 chance of gettin him, gamst is a slim hope i think, teams just wont sell there best players unless there is a falling out,

Petrov is a good player and im sure he would be well suited to the prem. but I really like the idea of a defoe - robben swap. (as long as bent comes in)
