Found it! It was Villa, not Wham or Burnley (same colour kit). Marcelino was the Spannish guy. I knew I wasn't imagining this. It was the first day of the 1999/2000 season and Newcastle were at home to Villa.

NUFC: Harper, Barton, Marcelino (Dyer 45 mins), Goma, Domi, Dumas, Solano (Robinson 85 mins), Speed, Serrant (Maric 75 mins), Ketsbaia, Shearer
Subs Not Used: Perez, Charvet
Sent Off: Shearer (70 mins)
Booked: Goma, Barton, Shearer, Speed

Joey

Dyer was an attacking midfielder for Ipswich. 100 % positive. I can remeber watching him play in the middle with matty Holland (I'm sure) and he got a really bad injury. Might have even been a play-off game. He may well have played wide right, but every time I saw him he played more central.

:) Give me a break here. Why are you even still questioning it? Why would i remember the substition, the opposition (kind of, i think Villa and West ham confusion is fair enough) and not the position he played in? It makes no sense. I clearly distincltly remember the game. I even remembered Newcastle lost and that he came on at half time and who for. I can't speak for you, but personally i'd give credit where it is due.

lol not a chance, you are highly respected on here by most (including me) and i have got 1 up on you here, you said dyer was bought as a right back, i say he was a midfielder, your right it appears he did debut at right back but that was due to injury his next game against the mighty spurs i think it was he was in midfield and played there all season, i can only find twice he played right back, once that you mention and once for england. he was bought as a midfeilder, now everyone may think im a lard head on here but at least i know i beat the mighty joey 55 jus the once.

 cheers matey.

i really dont think you are right. as a youngster (17-19) he was definately an attacking full back/wing back! he moved forward with time but when he made his pro debut he was a full back!

So it would seem he was bought as a right back, but played so well on his debut, that he was moved to CM:wink: .

no your not gettin me with that joey, he debutd at right bback like you said cos of injury, he was always goin to play midfield.

I can.

They are surely going to offer more money which can be a deal clincher in any walk of life and especially someone getting up there in age and maybe thinking about life after footy.

Plus Sven is well known throughout footy and might get guarented time on the pitch which Spurs have refused to do with other players and would keep with that policy so for me it really just depends how good of friends Petrov and Berby are.
