Also quite possible that we have no choice but to watch him go as Man City have offered more than we were prepared to. Same would have happened with Bent if he had not turned them down. We, admirably I think, have a valuation and stick to it. Means that if it comes to a battle we will only get a player that refuses the contract of higher offering club.

Perhaps Petrov will find some clauses at City like the Egyptian upsetting ones at Brum?

All these reports are just stemming from one source, which doesnt seem very reputable. There arent any quotes or direct information. All these stories do is get hits on their websites from a)spurs fans shitting themselves and b) hopeful Man City fans. Because its on a website these journo's just seem to write anything with a source from anywhere. Do we know for sure that
1) Petrov is in England
2) He HAS spoken to us already
3) He HAS flown to Manchester (City? oh i thought i was here to see United)
4)How much we offered both transfer and wages wise.

We need to cut some BS out here and reaffirm where we are.

1 - Yes
2 - Yes
3 - Dont know

A very reputable ITK (works in media and was at the lane yesterday) from another site saw petrov enter the lane yesterday. good enough for me (also proves most of the papers are talking shit as they claim he was in manchester all day for talks there)

Be a shame if we miss out on Petrov, will be like Duff last season, just when we think we have snapped up a LW a lesser club throws money at them. He will however defo be leaving Atletico as they have just signed Simao

New owner at clubs like Westham, Citeh, New Castle etc want to impress their supporters immediately...they WILL offer silly money to get somebody descent, ala Darren Bent.... There are not many players like D Bent who turned down higher offer just for fotballing matters....Most players are just like like Lucas Niel, SWP, Parker, Duff etc....

Talk Sport are saying he is due for a medical at City today.
Be philosophical about it: remember Duff last year.... a close escape for us.

I was just about to liken this to the Duff saga of yesteryear

I will be mightily pissed off if we miss out on Petrov. Signing him would conclude an excellent window for us and get things sorted nice and early. If we go yet another season without a proper left-sided midfielder then I think we are making a mockery of all the money we've spent in the last few windows.

We know our team is unbalanced without a strong left-sider, we know it has affected our performances for the last few seasons, we know it leaves our left-back exposed. Why oh why do we allow this situation to continue, when we have a perfect opportunity to finally place the last piece of the jigsaw in our squad?

The only good reasons for not signing Petrov are a dodgy medical, or a signed-sealed-delivered better prospect in the pipeline. No other reasons will suffice. I don't think for a moment O'Hara is regarded as that better prospect, and we sure as hell haven't heard about anyone else being lined-up. We also haven't heard anything about a medical, which the ITK's would be all over like a rash had it happened.

If he's chosen City for money alone I will be surprised, the chance to link up with Berba and play for a club like ours should outweigh the money factor every time. people talk about his age but the guy is 28 for Christ's sake not 32, he's at his peak age.

If we're actually prepared to let this opportunity go for the sake of a few hundred grand, I will be steaming.

You realize Rose is not ready for regular first team football?

We need Petrov and not getting him will be a huge mistake.

That's quite a statement to make. Rose probably isn't ready for regular first team football, no. To say that we need Petrov though, and that not getting him will be a huge mistake is a bit of a silly thing to say. If we really do need him, we'll get him. If not, then I trust that for whatever reason we didn't feel that he was worth signing.

No, it's not. Petrov was the last hope for a LW. Another season with no LW is not a silly thing to say.

We need Petrov to be shit?

we need Petrov to be our established first choice in that postion with Rose being the young exciting prospect.

Hopefully Rose will then get his opportunity to show what he can do and have an impact as great as Lennon.

But right now we still need someone in front of him to be the first teamer starter until Rose is ready.

That is what I meant by Routeledge (i.e. the reasons behind why we still signed him even though we had Lennon rarther then how things transpired since)

Im sure when he was signed it wasnt so he could be shit and make Lennon look good.

Rose coming in with no one in front of him may apply too much pressure as everyone will expect him to be ready already. Where as if Petrov is signed no one will really expect to see much of Rose and he can get on with developing and make the impact as and when he is ready.

Like Lennon, when he was signed there was no pressure as he was clearly 'one for the future' and Routledge was to be first choice, so I mean Petrov would do the same things for ROse as Routledge did for Lennon in regard to easing the pressure and lessening any hype.

I have faith in our backroom staff, BMJ must be in contact with Levy et al at WHL whilst they're in South Africa. ANd he too is probably aghast at the situation. But if Petrov is as mercenary is some stories are claiming, they are welcome to him.

If these stories are true then we must appreciate our clubs stance on players like this, it will hold us good stead. Yes we need a left winger/left midfielder but we need the right one, with the right attitude and the will to play for spurs. Not some wantaway money grabbing do whatever i can for a few extra grand type of guy.

Of course this whole story is pure hearsay. He could well be tucking into a nice Full English at the Lane discussing bulgarian eateries around London with Levy oblivious to SC going mental !!
