I watched him a fair bit at Wolves, but I don't ever remember him being as bad going forward as he is for us. Assist for Kane vs. Brom aside I can't remember him ever really having an impact in the final third. I can forgive him for his defensive frailties as he's clearly a shit defender, but he has to at least balance it out by being a half-decent attacking full-back.

I suppose a lot of that is getting to know the attacking players, the runs they make, what they can and can’t do etc. He’s hampered by the fact that generally he has Sissoko as his supporting midfielder on the right hand side. Or we have seen him in the Europa league in changed teams with an unfit Bale in front of him.

He was awful last night, but so was everyone else pretty much, he’s new and people need to be a little more patient.

Just give him time. No reason for everyone to say we NEED to give Ndombele a year plus to settle in and then berate Doherty after 4 months.

He has been at Wolves since 2010 and played an extremely specific and precise system under Nuno for the last few years, where he knew exactly what he had to do every match. He has just as much merit for needing time to figure things out in a new setup.

Doherty has played premiership football for a few years and was effective in one formation. Having watched him play for Ireland at right back as well I can make the judgement that he is just alright.

For me along with a centre back and centre midfielder a new right back has to be the main priority next summer.

Again, these are all just statements where the comment either ends up being 1) he's not good enough or 2) he needs time, depending on the optimism levels or scapegoat levels the fans here have decided on.

With Ndombele, who looked wretched for several months, it was he needs time. With Doherty, who seems to have been drawn into the scapegoat camp, it's that he isn't good enough.

We have a team of scouts who have done their due diligence and I highly doubt we're selling him anytime soon, so let's just see how he progresses.

We have a team of scouts that recommended paying £25m for a left back and a year later bought another left back as the first one isn't yet at the level that is required in that position. With the amount of signings we made in the summer you will always sign at least one dud and at the moment on current play he is likely to be the one

As for your comparison; Doherty has played premiership football for the last three years and is 28. Ndombele was home sick, fucking lazy and young but with amaximum potential that is through the roof therefore is going to be given longer and more opportunities with fans to up his game.

I have not been impressed with Doherty and KWP has been impressive for Southampton plus he is English not sure why we did this..
Hopefully he proves me wrong in the second half of the season

The irish Noe Pamarot would rather have Japhet at right back

He could actually be one of our worst modern day signings up there with n’s and stambouli’s who we signed because our scout got the players name wrong!!

No chance mate. That's a bold acquisition towards a player who has only played in a handful of matches. He had a rough game but that's harsh.

He actually has the fourth best statistical rating in the squad (per WhoScored) in the Premier League. And is a massive reason we are top of the league with that beautiful cross to Kane v WBA. Not to mention has won far more Aerial Duels (4.3/game) than any other player in the squad. His presence is a massive reason we haven't been conceding a shitload of goals from crosses into the box like last season. Defenders of course are only remembered for their errors and not their beneficial contributions.

He's mostly been fine, not great not bad. But we are a stronger team with him in it. He's been a bit unlucky as we planned to play him as a wingback in that asymmetrical formation we played around with. But, since getting Reguillon that idea has been thrown out of the window. So, the role he is now playing is not what was expected of him.

But Aurier has responded impressively and largely he competes well, is aggressive and all that, though he does look flat going forward, cos he isn't a good crosser of the ball, his game relies on getting into the box itself. In any case fine.

Calm down. Every thread I go into you're totally slagging left, right and centre lol.

It was a shit night the other night and we know some didn't do well but the abuse some of them are getting is ridiculous!

One positive aspect of MD's arrival has been the seeming wake up call for Aurier. In terms of how MD has gone most here are missing the point that he mainly played for Wolves as a wing back in a 352 or 343. Mourinho has not asked MD to play in a system resembling that so far apart from maybe the last five v LASK. Personally, I expected more from him. He hasn't shown any inclination to get to the touch line at all...no little jinky moves....bursts of acceleration before crossing. Not even seen him smile yet! Perhaps he has 'early Ralph Coates syndrome' at the moment?
