Henry and Vieria were flops in Seri A and spent only a season there, having spent majority of their career in France. Jovetic has not done well for ManC.
Balotelli was not a regular at ManC in case you did not notice.
You missed a lots, fex. Shavchenko, Materazzi.
Anyway, I don't that you and some thinks that background - both football and cultural - has nothing no influence on on-field performances. Fortunately, also in the EPL people are starting to understand what clubs in other big leages understood a long time ago....

I was focussing on forwards. If not I'd say that Van der Sar was awesome and could go on.

Henry was not a flop for Juve, he was played out wide to accommodate Juve's strikers. He was just bought by Arsenal after 1 season. Balotelli wasn't a regular? Who was he up against? Who else would be? Jovetic hasn't done badly either. You can't call him a failure.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

DiCanio, Benito Carbone too?
Di canio like him or not did well here, i have a few friends who are sheffield wednesday fans who never stop going on about Carbone so he must have been alright, in Italy he was never classed as top tier, but its all onions.

You didnt put a time frame on how long they had to play in a league before they came over. Viera did not play much for milan but Henry was in no way a flop.

Culturally it depends on the individual, for instance Lamela struggled as a young kid but fellow Argentinians like Augrero and Zabaletta did not, so the point i made in my last post still stands where the characteristics of a player will determine his success in this league more then his nationality or what league he came from.

If your point wasn't blanket Seria A and you were pointing at Italians in particular then maybe an argument can be had that they don't travel well but the number of Italians that actually leave Seria A is small in comparison to other countries and you would probably find equallish shares of flops and not flops.

One last point, Ballotelli was not a flop at City, but no way reached his potential there and possibly never will in any league.

Destro has a bit of the Balottelis about his from what i have heard personality wise but i have no idea if he has the features to do well in our league.

No that was my point. I was adding 2 more successful Italians to the list.

Soldados our most intelligent player after Eriksen.
He's a clever player, but I was talking about effecting games from deeper and sorry the odd little flick is about all he contributes. In terms of 'Playing football' I'd rank Holtby above Soldado all day long.

I think it's kind of funny that people are saying Osvaldo is a flop for Poch, but I think that's somewhat disingenuous. Osvaldo was a flop because he decided to punch a teammate (and their current captain) in the face. He isn't a flop because of his play.

Yep. When it came to punching, he was a big hit.;)

I have to say i'd be a bit disappointed if we signed Destro. Most players at least look decent on a YouTube vid but I haven't seen one yet in which he doesn't look mediocre at best.

Goal scorer. Not a scorer of great goals. We always fall for the flair at Spurs, sometimes a simple goal getter is all we need.

2012 - Roma - 41 Apps - 19 Goals. Not too shabby.

He's a top class finisher, with both his foot and his head. Lets say 20m euro's is the price, mate, thats a pretty safe investment. Even if he flopped we'd get most of that back due to age/reputation/goascoring record, pretty sure he wouldnt though, like Negredo he's got the tools to play in the Prem, and at age 23 he fits in well with the group of players we have emerging (Eriksen, Lamela, Davies ect ect). Repect your opinion though, just trying to put your mind at ease a bit.

Destro isn't that kind of player. Soldado is actually better on the ball than Destro and would drop off and link up play better. Destro isn't the best passer, nor does he hold the ball up too well.

However, what he is good at is being that typical number 9 who makes the kind of runs we saw Dier do on Saturday. He likes to play in between the defenders and capitalise on them switching off. He's a good finisher, definitely an in the box finisher rather than spanking them from range, however that does come with greedy moments of choosing the shot over the pass and doing the whole Defoe style "trying to shoot through players". I guess that's just part of being a typical striker though, that slight level of greediness and hunger for goals. Not the greatest in the air, but again has a tenacity about him when in the box.

He's a good player, and has done admirably coming back from injury, but I'm not sure if he'll be up to the physicality of our league, nor is he persistent or energetic enough to play a pressing game. If Poch wants a poacher though then he's not a bad choice, considering the lack of options around at the moment.

If Destro is as much of an off-the-ball runner as you say, then he's exactly the sort of player we need. We need that balance up top, and currently have two many ball carriers that like to dribble, or pick up the ball from deep. Problem is that Lennon aside, we just don't have enough runners in our team that stretch the opposition defence and look to run in behind.

I wonder if we're in for Benatia instead. Because Destro just doesn't make much sense to me, and JJ has previously played the link down.

I just can't see us signing Benatia. There are better clubs out there after him that have a lot more money than we do. The second a bid from us is accepted it will be everywhere, courtesy of his agent leaking the info to get a better deal.
