I think we should rest everyone.

We need to make sure we're fit for the Chelsea game cos if we lose that we're 7pts behind them with only 25 games left including them at home.

Sure we'll be knocked out of a competition we've only ever been in twice but if we don't get knocked out tonight we're definitely getting knocked out in the next round and we can't impact our chances of getting top 4 this season. If we don't sacrifice the CL this year then we ain't getting CL next year and so all our players will leave.
All that matters is getting into the CL, not actually being in it.

What's the point of qualifying for the competition and having the attitude of let's rest our players in the competition to give ourselves a better chance of qualifying for it next year? That makes absolutely no sense.

If you qualify for the CL you should try your hardest to get as far as possible, not just qualifying for the group stages and then giving up.

It's a cup competition so anything can happen though and it's easier winning the CL than the league. We'll probably get knocked out but I don't see the point of putting ourselves through a 38 game season in order to qualify for the CL just to go out at the first stage.

Of course, we should give it our best shot. What I'm really getting at, though, is even if it doesn't go our way, the Europa League could still be valuable for some of our up and coming, fringe and struggling players.

Don't agree though it's easier to win than the league. Any team in the PL I feel we have a decent shot at beating on our day and if the whole 11 turn up. If we drew Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, maybe even Dortmund, we'd have to probably use up a whole season's luck to get past.

Blimey, are we now treating the CL the same way we treat the EL and the League Cup!

Sure we'll be knocked out of a competition we've only ever been in twice but if we don't get knocked out tonight we're definitely getting knocked out in the next round

That's the spirit.

This is why I'm a bit more confident. It's not exactly going to be an intimidating atmosphere for our lads. Hopefully this will encourage them to just do their thing and not be phased by the occasion.

It's true that the stadium and its atmosphere is anything but intimidating, but Monaco are in wicked form and haven't lost at home in the CL for ages. It will take a really inspired performance to beat them tonight.

Just looking at their league form. In 3 of their last 6 league games they've battered teams 6-0, 6-2 and 7-1 (away)

Tough match, Monaco are playing at a very high level right now and people are still continuing to write them off.

It's been the general attitude in all our group games tbf. Fans seem to be expecting us breeze it like we do the Europa group games.

So bit bored at work so thought i would put this together

Scenarios and outcomes

Current Standings
Monaco - 8
Leverkusen - 6
Tottenham – 4
CSKA – 2

Home wins tonight
Monaco -11
Leverkusen - 6
CSKA - 5
Tottenham - 4

Outcome: Not the worst outcome but we would need Monaco to beat Leverkusen and we would have to beat CSKA to progress in second place

Away wins
Leverkusen - 9
Monaco - 8
Tottenham - 7
CSKA - 2

Outcome: We are right back in it with a chance to finish top of the group. A draw for Leverkusen in their last game and a big win for us would see us top the group (i am assuming it is goal difference and not head to head) either way a final group game win would see us through

Draws

Monaco - 9
Leverkusen - 7
Tottenham - 5
CSKA - 3

Outcome: We are still in it but we would need Monaco to beat Leverkusen and we would need to beat CSKA to progress in second place

Monaco Win Leverkusen Draw

Monaco - 11
Leverkusen - 7
Tottenham - 4
CSKA - 3

Outcome: edit: we are still in but can only finish second.

Leverkusen Win Monaco draw
Leverkusen - 9
Monaco - 9
Tottenham - 5
CSKA - 2

Outcome: Worst possible Outcome. We are out

Tottenham Win Leverkusen Draw

Monaco - 8
Tottenham - 7
Leverkusen - 7
CSKA - 3

Outcome: We are still in with a shout of finishing top of the group. Leverkusen would have to beat Monaco and we would need to beat CSKA and have a better goal difference (see above)

CSKA Win Tottenham Draw
Monaco - 9
Leverkusen - 6
Tottenham - 5
CSKA - 5

Outcome: We would need Monaco to beat Leverkusen and we would need to beat CSKA to go through in second.

So we are not out tonight unless Monaco win and Leverkusen draw or vice versa.

thanks for indulging me.

thanks, very useful. I think it's important to remember as well that Leverkusen are playing away at Moscow and the temperature is like -5 degrees so who knows what the result will be
