This 100%. Realistically, until we're in the new stadium, we're a top 6 club and not a top 4 club. We should be looking to have a side reaching maturity in 2-4 years when we're in the new stadium - then we can pay comparable wages to the current top 4.
If we crack top 4 before, great, but I am not expecting it until we can afford to pay the wages the current top 4 (and Liverpool) can pay. I would love us to sign MS but if we lose out to Arsenal, I won't lose sleep on it. We should be aiming for players looking to use us as a stepping stone and hope we make the jump before they want it. Adding in our best youngsters, investing in the youth team, will allow us to be fully prepared when we can dump £50m on players and pay them £150k a week - we're not there yet.
Sure, we could throw money at MS but we'd be gambling with money we don't have and, for all the chance it goes for us, just look at Portsmouth and Leeds
We have Wimmer, Tripier, Pritchard, Alli, Fredericks, Yedlin, Carroll and a few others available as "new" players this season. It's doubtful we will get top 4 this year so maybe we should give them a chance and see if we can win the europa?
