so what do people think of him?? leaving out as much bias possible considering he is on the verge of become one of us

I don't watch fulham, maybe 4 or 5 times a season ill watch a full game of theirs so I have no clue about him really. Saw them play United at the weekend and Dembele was their best player, but is he consitantly like that?

it's ironic that he is our modric replacement who stats wise is just as bad as Luka when it comes to goals and assists, truly like for like replacement then...obviously not as good?

2 goals 2 assists last season
3 goals 3 assists the season before

But he isn't our Modric replacement though.

Honestly, people really need to get rid of this notion of us buying and outright like for like replacement for Modric. The style of play and shift in formation doesn't necessarily require a like for like repalcement, and nor could we get one if we tried. A like for like replacement would be almost impossible to find, such was Modric's qualities.

And no his goal scoring stats wouldn't be particularly good since Jol didn't use him as an attacking midfielder. He was working towards moving him deeper and deeper. Dembele is definitely a very good player and will be a straong acquisition for us if it gets confirmed. Looking at the stats for last season the one thing that stands out was that he was in the top 6 in the league for pass completion. Have a look out for last weeks match against United if you want to see what he is all about, easily the best man on the pitch last week. He is strong, can hold the ball up well, and his ball control is excellent. He is also an intelligent player with great vision.

Saying that I don't think he is "world class" or even a world beater by any means. I would be slightly concerned by his consistency and certainly has that Berbatov like ability to go awol for some games.

Still think he will be a great addition to the team.

I would say that his stats can only improve by moving to a much stronger team than Fulham.
The reaction of Fulham fans on forums suggests that he is by far their best player, read several saying that they would much prefer to lose Dempsey, who scored over 20 goals for them last season. It seemed like they were being honest too, not just bitter because Clint put a transfer request in.

Players shouldn't just be judged on goals and assists. I'm sure that Dembele played his part in many goals last season its not always the final pass that makes a goal.

One of the things that really worries me about him from looking at the youtube vids is the lack of forward passing from him. Nearly all of his passes are short sideways passes.

Seems to be a serious lack of vision on the passing front....prob more of a personal thing but I always like to see creative passing in a midfielder and an ability to spot a killer pass.

Dembe's game seems to be very much to hold up the ball and advance play by beating players...can anybody who has seen more of him for Fulham confirm this?

If we manage to secure Dembele, he'll be a great addition. It has been clear to see in the first two games, that there has been no one in the midfield who can pick up the ball and move forward with it at pace. Our two CM's never stretched or got in front of eithe rthe Newcastle or WBA midfield and the consequence was little creativity. Demeble offers craft, creativity pace and power, so will be most happy when he signs on the dotted line

I'm sure this has been posted but looking at this vid he's always wanting the ball. Great hold up and wants to take the game by the horns.

Looks strong also. Very exciting.

I watched the Man Utd highlights and I thought exactly that. either Fulham have nothing upfront and he had no confidence inhis strikers or he doesn't have great vision. He won the ball back so many times in that game and made so many runs but I was suprissed to see that he didn't create more chances as a result. Certainly no Modric. More like a Sandro.

This.

It's a concern for me IF he plays in midfield as our ball playing midfielder because he likes to hang onto the ball and beat players. I'd much prefer a gifted passing player who can move the ball around quickly and accurately. Dembele will slow things down if he plays the same way at Spurs as he has for Fulham.

He's a good player and better than what we have right now but I'd have much preferred Moutinho.
