I follow Gateshead as I live up here. They were fantastic in the National League North but are struggling this season. It's quite a step up financially with the longer journeys to other clubs but I'm not sure how much extra financial renumeration you get when you make the step up from regional to national.

Oh thank christ for that:

S****horpe United can confirm that a deal has been agreed for the acquisition of the club by the local group headed by Simon Elliott and Ian Sharp.

The club will now work with them during the final due diligence and transition into their ownership over the coming weeks.

Peter Swann said: “We needed to ensure that the club wages for November were paid as soon as possible, which will happen later today or tomorrow thanks to the deal and ensure the long-term future of the football club with new investment.”

Simon and Ian are heading to S****horpe right now to finalise the details and prepare for the game on Saturday versus Notts County.

Barnet have had a very iffy start to the season but find themselves in a play off position. How that happened I will never know?

So if anyone is whinging on about the owners of a football club that's currently 5th in the Premier League, here's a little look at what shit, crooked and deliberately unambitious ownership looks like:

S****horpe United served winding-up petition over alleged unpaid tax bill
The notice has been served by HM Revenue and Customs

The future of S****horpe United has been thrown into deeper uncertainty as the club has been served a winding-up petition over an alleged unpaid tax bill.

The petition for an order was issued on January 11, 2023, by HM Revenue and Customs. A winding-up order is made when a creditor applies to the court to shut down a company.

If the debt is not paid by the stated date and the court concludes that the debtor does not have the capacity to pay, the company’s bank account will usually be frozen and its assets or property will be sold by the official receiver. Owner Peter Swann has publicly acknowledged the petition but no further comment has been provided.

Football finance expert, Kieran Maguire told BBC Radio Humberside that the club would have received multiple notices before a winding up petition would have been served. However, he said this is not the first time a football club has been given such notice but 'most stories are good rather than bad' with clubs making their way out of financial plights.

"We do see these with other football clubs, Southend United for example, they practically have season tickets with the HMRC with the number of times they have been served with winding-up orders, but at the last minute the club owner manages to find money to pay them off," he added.

In December 2022, Peter Swann said a deal had been struck to change ownership, but this has not yet come to fruition. In a statement from the club at the time it was stated that the club needed to pay their club wages for the month before and were able to thanks to the deal.

The statement read: "We needed to ensure that the club wages for November were paid as soon as possible, which will happen later today or tomorrow thanks to the deal and ensure the long-term future of the football club with new investment.”

The fixture this Saturday is expected to proceed as normal. The team is currently at the bottom of the National League table. They will play Woking on January 14.

My local National League team is Woking. They've not done great over the decades apart from a great run to the 5th round of the FA way back in the early 90s. I worked with their striker at an engineering place as they were all part time back then.

Doing quite well so far this season. Would love to see them get to the playoffs for promotion to League 2. I keep meaning to start going to the odd match but there's always something else having to take priority.

Looking increasingly likely S****horpe will be going the way of Bury.

Club's been on the brink for 2 seasons now. A local consortium agreed a price with Swann late last year, but he's dicked about first with a betting charge, and now this unpaid tax winding up order. It's been more than apparent that he's been asset stripping them towards this since day one... You don't just go from the Championship to Non League in 5 years without some serious dodginess going on. He wants the land that glanford park sits on.

Right now most fans are ready for the inevitable and already discussing the phoenix club. But Peter Swann is enemy number one in North Lincolnshire.

Ah, good old S****horpe, the only team you can't properly type out in any modern site with a language filter...
