Pros: Pav's first goal, Pav giving the Argie a red nose

I couldn't believe the twat of a match analyst (was it that gooner Marwood?) saying Pav could have got a red card. :stupid:

Pav got Coloccini's studs smashing into his nether regions in the first minute, so Coloccini got to head Pav's elbow in return. It was good "you don't intimidate me" play. However, it wasn't a swinging elbow, and no way was it "serious foul play".

Agreed.

Was surprised that Ramos took Lennon off to replace Campbell instead of taking off Zokora or better, Jenas. I'd have thought with Gio, Campbell & Lennon the pace would have worked well.

I think the idea was to try and keep us compact. We've been so open this season that I can see the reasoning behind the starting XI and the substitutions.

:) Every single question O'Hara was asked, he started his answers with 'Yeah, definitely, you know'.

What's the time Jamie?
Yeah, definitely, you know, 10pm.

Well that was one of the most boring matches I have ever witnessed with us struggling to do anything against a team with no manager and no crowd.

But don't worry we can always sign some more attacking midfielders with no real position and then spend the next few months playing them 'out of position' while trying to find out where they actually played. That will at least provide some entertainment.

We played well at the back and Pav did well. But that was the most boring game I've seen in years. Newcastle might actually get relegated they looked so bad. Geremi was just awful. It's amazing to think how far they've fallen in such a short space of time. To have gone from Shearer, Dyer, Robert, Bellamy, Woodgate and Speed etc, to that lot in 3 or 4 years is amazing.

I didn't think Jenas was good at all tonight (to the guy who thought he played well: you sure you weren't watching Frazier Campbell!?) and Zokora made a few bad mistakes.

I said in the other thread that I was confident we could win if we played 4-3-3. I was happy with our line-up today, only change i'd like is to put Bale at left back and put Gio or Bentley in the attack.

If King doesn't play on Sunday though I'll be really annoyed.

He did a lot of stuff good too. Made some important challenges and generally passed well.

Yes, keep it tight for half the game, keep a clean sheet, then go for it. Just a bit of a shame we didn't go for the jugular and got a wee bit complacent.

I think JJ did alot of running but considering he was supposed to be our attacking midfielder he made little impact.

Zokora gave the ball away alot as he always does but also made some great bursts and of all the midfielders he was the one who was driving us forwards.

O'Hara worked his nuts off and took his goal brilliantly although he too was pretty ordinary.

But that's exactly why Ramos got it spot on. None of those three can play well together in a midfield two but as a three they did the job that was needed. Got it tactically spot on tonight I think, even if it wasn't pretty to watch.

Well, we won but we certainly did not do it with style.

On the positive side, Pav got a goal and hopefully some confidence with it. He also showed that he has some steel with his tussles with the Argie dude. O'Hara looks like he could become a key player for us this season. Nice ball from Lennon (rewarded by being hauled off). Gio looked quite good. Hopefully the team will get a bit of confidence from this. Also good to see Ramos keeping big money players on the bench when they have been crap i.e. Bentley.

Downsides were that we still struggled. This was against a team in more trouble than us and Pompey will prove a tougher test. King still looks injured and is Bale now back on the injury list??? Ramos is still clearly unsure of what formation he wants let alone who he wants to play. Modric was nowhere when he came on (although he is just back from injury). Still playing BAE!!!!

Still a win is a win and hopefully we can push on from here.

Oh, and Villa and Everton got dumped out and Citeh are losing !!!!

Fantastic win for the boys. Its never easy to go to Newcastle and get a win.
Hopefully this will help their confidence and they can string a good run together.
