That is a fair chunk of money, Neal Maupay scored the same amount of goals (25) then moved to Brighton for £20mill last season ... Watkins, and I have been saying for a while that we should give him a look, isn't worth north of £30million quid.

Did you change your display pic to a wise man to give your posts more ooomph. I feel I gave your post more gravitas because of pic.

Whether we bring in one striker or two, whether the striker(s) Are home grown or not,it still does not get away from the fact that it now being just 5 days before the beginning of not just the new season but of a ridiculous batch of games in a very short period of time and we have only Harry Kane and no other striker in the squad.
That is shameful.
Nice to live in our ivory towers and not having to deal with all the scenarios that the club have to manage.

Unless the striker is under 21 we need to have sold a player to create a squad place.

So who are you proposing that should have been sold?

How much for?

Who are the clubs interested in those players at that price?

Do those players want to leave? And do they want to go to any of those clubs?

Or are you saying just buy a striker and suffer the consequences? Paying salaries of players not in the squad and the unrest that would cause.

All the above ignores all the issues of finding the right striker who is willing to be 2nd choice who wants to come and is affordable.

I could go on but I think you have enough to consider.

Shameful is easy to say and might be applied to previous seasons but all the itk indicates that the club are doing their best to buy and sell the right players by 5 October.

Slightly worrying that a week ago we were talking about King, Wilson, Watkins as our options and every single plausible option is seemingly going elsewhere.

Looks more and more like Alistair Gold might be right and we'll get Diallo on the (comparative) cheap and just hope he works out.

Fair play Brentford, we were never going to pay that amount for Watkins - I think he’s a good player and will do well for them, but for a fee totalling up to £33m we can surely do better...

Back to the drawing board then... :banghead:

These Watkins ITK from Dragon haven't sat right with me. It has felt like he's been of interest but not a player we'd spend big on.

Ali Gold has maintained we're interested but not at an auction, which was always going to be the case. JJs 'under the radar' tweet hints at a player that is not known to many and we haven't been linked to at all.

If we are fighting Villa for a striker at 30m we may as well just go and buy the best up and coming striker in Europe.

If Watkins had been a serious link or a progressed transfer then the likes of AG and other more respected ITKs would have got wind of it.

At this point in time, and considering what Ali Gold stated, I believe Diallo is the most likely of all our targets.

Nah, that's Moondog, he was weird, and I think there might be a number of folk who agree I'm weird. Wise is one of the last things that crossed my mind! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah that’s silly money. Villa are going to be in serious financial trouble again if they go down this year.

On another note, I suggested it the other day but this makes me think even more we were never in for Watkins, but Benrahma only. Someone probably heard we were chatting to them and put 2+2 together and decided we must be going for Watkins. But the Goat bleat about Benrahma (which was basically word for word the same as the bleat for Doherty) makes me think it even more.

Haha, Dear Leader ain’t going anywhere near that mark. Which is probably a fair appraisal of risk. Close thread, but don’t dream of Daka- Jose won’t be liking some of them 6/10 stats

we shouldn’t be letting the non HG piece stop us. I think we have a spot in EPL without selling anybody (Davies is HG there) and if the worst case is that we need to leave Aurier, Foyth, or Gazzaniga off the Europa roster so be it (plus we can make changes up to the transfer window deadline).

looks like that’s where we’ll end up regardless - all the HG options have gone for silly fees anyway.

but waiting because we feel like we need to write Aurier/Foyth/Gazzaniga on a sheet of paper is insanity.

I'm good with this. Hope he does well for Villa. 33m for a championship striker is a LOT of money.

Not convinced he's the right option for us and actually Levy says in the AON doc that Jose likes a particular type of striker, which apparently made it harder to get one back in January.

I was annoyed at the time when we didnt sign a second striker when Kane got injured in January. But after watching the documentary and seeing they had the whole month to get a new one in......and yet here we are, a week from the new season and probably the most busiest period in our clubs history and we still only have 1 striker!

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of how transfers work and I'm sure it's a stressful and tough time for the club and Levy and this may sound knee jerk and it probably is. But.....for a club that want to be at the top and go places, to only have 1 striker for so long and to still not have a new one in is genuinely disgusting!!

Normally i'd say 'fuck that' as i'd believe it to be extortionate.

But in reality we are now at the stage that we have to spend whatever we can afford to bring in one of the managers striker targets.

Over paying will be less costly than going through a chunk of the season with no striker rotation meaning Kane gets injured again / we drop points when we need to rotate.
