They do still have some game changers/winners though in Gerrard, Sterling, Sturridge. We were left without any really when Bale left (Eriksen being the closest but was new to the club & league)

"half our team"?

giphy.gif

We sold Huddlestone, Parker, Dempsey, and Caulker none of which were first team players and some weren't even 2nd best either.

Then later on we sold Defoe when it was clear we didn't really need him anymore.

Personally I think we still needed Defoe...

anyway you are right we didnt sell half the team but we lost a good part of the squad in various ways..

Demsey, Parker, Bale all sold Adebayor frozen out plus Bene Akoto went out on loan so it was a big disruption to the team. They played most games towards the end of the season..

Plus livermore and Huddlestone were doing a job off the bench all guys with premier league experience

finally Gallas was released and I am sure he had a big influence in the dressing room. It all adds up my point was it was not just Bale leaving that weakened us. We obviously bought players in with ability but did we buy strong characters.

Origi's on his way to meet up with L/pool for a medical along with Remy. Lovren deal is back on too according to the BBC.

They're not really game changers, Gerrard still is, just not in Liverpool's favour, the other 2 aren't imo. They looked that way because of Suarez, again imo.

Sturridge still did well before Suarez kicked a ball last season and Stering is developing into the player Lennon should be.If not game changers better than we have.

You could be right. I suppose we'll see this season but I just don't see it in them, possibly Sterling, but Sturridge I just don't see it. Good striker but I don't believe a game changer.
It's all subjective as the term game changer can mean different things to us both.

I agree it can mean different things, I was taking it as match winner and considered his ability to score.
I also think his first touch isn't in the class of "most game changers" if you are talking pure ability.

I hope they sign Lovren because I just don't rate the guy and if his price is around the £16-20 million mark, that's madness. Rather them than us.

'At this moment, a deal hasn't been completed. Liverpool remains the most concrete option, but another team has emerged. A decision will be made quickly. Divock will report for training in Lille next Monday. We want to conclude everything before that date.'

Quotes from Divock's father in today's Belgian newspapers. The interviewer mentions other club could be us.

Was he even that good at the WC?

I only saw him in two matches (against the US and the Argies i think) and I have to admit he looked very decent, especially against the US. Good size, strength speed (very athletic) plus good footballing ability(decent skills and good at bringing others into the game) I think he'll become a very useful player.
