Any sensible person should agree that he needs time, but he isn't going to be able to meet expectations here in the long run with a no net spend transfer policy. The only way he can bring quality players in going forward, if our austerity holds, would be to sell players like Eriksen, Vertonghen, and Lloris, and that really would be a lateral move when it comes to building a quality squad in all in likelihood.

There are limitations in the squad at-large that his coaching system cannot come close to overcoming. Even if we failed to qualify to the knockout stages of Europa, I wouldn't necessarily blame him given the complete lack of depth when it comes to our attacking options.
I totally agree.

Poch was brought in because of his record of developing players and presumably accepted the job based on an understanding of the constraints imposed by our transfer budget. But if by 'meet expectations here' you mean the ludicrous expectations of some on this board, then I agree.

Our squad has impressive depth and our attacking options are decent enough if played to their strengths. Whether Poch's very fixed tactical blueprint will get the best out of them remains to be seen.

I'm personally quite happy to come away from that with a point. Difficult atmosphere, shite pitch, and an opposition who were either hacking at us or falling over like someone in a hong kong kung fu movie.

That was an OK result and performance, we didn't create much but then we stopped them too.
We played 9 genuine reserves so it shouldn't impact on the league whilst seeing us happier with an away point than Partisan would with a home point.

A couple of years ago we had to field an entire team of inexperienced kids in this competition whereas now we have a blend of experienced older players as well as 'kids' who have featured enough to be confident of playing.
If the same team can perform on a better pitch, at home, then we'll go through without too much trouble.

Expecting a comfortable 3-0 result in the circumstances just isn't realistic.

But I would echo eddiebaileys sentiments that Poch's tactics may be a little too fixed at the moment.
In my opinion if we are playing Lennon and Townsend we should play them as out and out wingers whipping balls into Kane, with Paulinho arriving late. Using them in an inverted style just doesn't work for me.
I think he's wasting his time trying to get them to play a Chadli/Lamela role and we had already learnt that under AVB.
I would rather Poch change tactics to suit the players than vice versa.

We played a reserve side ( mostly) on a crap pitch, against a side who have no been beaten for several games and we got a point. No reason to bitch about the result or the performance, we move on.

Just watched the game:

- Davies had a horrible day at the office - needs to settle.
- Faz and Verts looks like a natural partnership.
- Tough game/environment/pitch.
- Will take the draw; got to have a good look at faz and stambo and they look like players.

Next.
