I really doubt that random Portuguese journalist knows something about this deal.
And I also doubt we are bidding that high already without knowing he's interested in moving if that's true

Another Gary Jacob exclusive to be shot within hours of breaking?

I know Lautaro still might happen, but there hasn't really been any improvement since Sunday apart from a couple of ITKs.

This was Joyce and Hirst, not Gary Jacob (I think)

Oh, sorry, right. But still, similar story. English media break a transfer only for it to be denied a couple of hours later. I also think Alasdair didn't write anything about it.

This sounds like a lot of money for much less than a sure thing. If I had to pick someone there, I’d rather take a punt on their Argentine Lad that plays either CB or RB.

He is quality, we should have got him before he went there. Oh wait.....

We've been through this in the Lautaro thread.

What's inaccurate about either story?

There's several steps between what they've reported and completing a signing. They've not reported that it was going through, just information about what they've been told has happened.

What tends to happen is fans take the story and get carried away with it.

We all start thinking about our preferred XI and formations with said shiny signing, then blame the journalists when it doesn't go through which isn't rational.

Especially given the Times isn't even a click bait business model.

It would be a shame if this doesn't go through as reported, he would have improved our defense by passing and handling the ball better. negative impact passes are defined as incomplete passes giving the opposition >1.40% chance of scoring and Davinson (worst) and Dier (7th worst) are leaders in that category for the premier league.

Some of it was on Mourinho's system, but Davinson and Dier are much more likely to hurt our defense and attack when they possess the ball.

My guess is the truth is somewhere in between. I’m sure he’d rather go to Madrid or Chelsea or United than us. Maybe all parties need to get the price out there to flesh out whether any of these other clubs are actually going to come for him, and then when they don’t he’ll prefer getting a 4x pay raise with us to staying where he is.

So I'd say apply a lot of salt to this as I've not seen SportWitness transition from translators to journalists enough to have a credibility check but having followed and spoken with them before, they care a lot about accuracy in translating and so I would hope that is also true in their reporting.

...another one bites the dust! But to hell with him. Like Nuno said... players should not need persuading to join us. If they have reservations, then move on.

It is strange how fees are negotiated with the club first before ascertaining whether a player is interested in the move. That just defies all logic. You'd obviously do both together - get basic interest from the player and a green light from the club that there's a negotiation to be had. There's no reason at all it needs to be sequential.

Have to accept players want the opportunity to win things and we don't offer that in a permanent state of transition.
