Paulinho denies Real Madrid approach

The Corinthians president says that the 24-year-old is closing in on a transfer away from the club, with Spurs the only team to have made a proposal
Tottenham-bound Paulinho has denied reports of an approach from Real Madrid, with Corinthiansconfirming that his departure is "imminent".

The 24-year-old, who scored a late winner for Brazil on Wednesday to dump Uruguay out of the Confederations Cup, is set to join Spurs in a €20 million deal after the tournament.

Reports have suggested that Real Madrid are not giving up hope on the midfielder but the Selecao star is adamant that the north Londoners are the only team to have spoken to him.

"There is nothing true about Real; the only proposal that came to me was from Tottenham," Paulinho told reporters.

"I've talked to them but I'll look at it after the Confederations Cup."

The Brazilian club are resigned to losing their prized asset and are ready to put into action plans for life without him.

"Besides the signings we also suffered harassment from the world's top clubs for some of our key players," said president Mario Gobbi Filho in a statement.

"We make every effort to keep them but we have to evaluate the good proposals and understand the goals and aspirations of life of each of our athletes.

"With the imminent departure of Paulinho we trust in football other players that are being prepared for some time, as William and Edenilson, or even the newly hired Ibson."

Not sure if the harassment remark is aimed at us, hope not.

New daily fail article, with shiny quotes, if they are real then happy days.

'It is important for the team and the Brazilian fans that at the moment all my focus is on winning the Confederations Cup - but after the tournament is finished I hope it is a deal that can get finalised quickly,' said Paulinho.

'To play in England for a great team like Tottenham is a dream. What I respect about Tottenham is the ambition they have shown.

'This summer there has been interest in their coach and their best player - and they have been clear they both are not going anywhere.

'When my agent made me aware that Tottenham were interested I knew it would not be a move that I could turn down.

Me like. If he doesn't join now I'll be gobsmacked.

I feel like those are the prior quotes just furthered. I want them to be real but they sound so direct which is the opposite of how Paulinho has been.

Buy Paulinho for £17 million and sell Hudd for £8 million! So Paulinho has only cost us £9 million ;)
