Siggy has been consistently played in the wrong position anyway, you can judge his performances but I don't think it's fair to judge him as a player on his time with us due to that.
See I take your point here. And I sort of agree. The left side is not his position, but he hasn't really shown enough dynamism when playing there to think that he should be playing centrally and should be the fulcrum of our side.

In relation to Paulinho - I can definitely see where Blake Griffin is coming from, but I'm hopeful it was just growing pains in a new league for him and that he'll look more comfortable this season.

And like he said, he can only play as the third CM who is freed-up a la Lampard, but I also doubt whether he'll ever get the goal return Lampard did. If Chelsea or someone else offered 30m, then I think I'd grudgingly accept, as selecting Paulinho in our XI at the moment arguably creates other issues elsewhere in our team.

Bit of ramble there - in short, I can't make my mind up

Every time he has played at number 10 he struggles to turn on the ball and normally loses possession or fails to pick the right pass . a sign that he doesn't have the intelligence or technical ability to play the position.

Which is how many times though?

I'd never really watched Paulinho before he came but heard that he likened himself to Lampard or said that he could be like him/wanted to be like him which still leaves me shocked considering how bad his shooting is :D

Siggy would be a fantastic AM for a PL side playing a lot on the break, timing his arrival into disorganised defences and using his shot from medium ranges. Against the banks of 4 we face, he's just tidy.

Paulinho IMO has to be the focal point of our team. There is so much he can give to the current team. I really believe neither AVB nor Sherwood used him well.

Some here say he isn't good enough. He scored 6 goals from 30 PL games last season. And lets not forget the numerous situation were he didn't shoot well. He could have easily scored 10 from CM.

His best game came against Stoke City, unfortunately thanks to that C*** Adam, he got injured & sat out for 1.5 months - eventually he got sidelined & only to come back in last 6 games.

Scholari respects his skill & intelligence - hence he is certain starter in Brazil XI. He didn't have the greatest of game against Serbia - believe me he will again start for Brazil and will most likely be their most important player.

Btw, a question - Who was the last CM in a Spurs shirt who scored 6 goals in a PL campaign. Not even Modric has done it and we probably have to go back a long time ?

If Scolari respected skill and intelligence then he would have selected Coutinho over a host of the players he eventually selected.

Building a team around a player who blows cold ten times more often than he blows hot is lunacy.

I don't think too many are saying he isn't good enough; most posts seem to express disappointment, which isn't the same thing at all. Even making all due allowance, he has not looked a £17m player. There have also been a few disturbing posts suggesting he's been pretty good. He needed 54 shots for those six goals, which isn't a great conversion rate considering the excellent positions he got in. Not only could he have scored 10, he should have done. What's worrying is that he never got into double figures for Corinthians. Yet some people have been comparing him to Lampard, or (God help us!) Martin Peters.

What he does for Brazil is irrelevant. Gilberto played over 30 games for Brazil (he was also voted best full back in the Bundesliga). He was a train wreck for us.

Gilberto did his best work in the Bundesliga as a central midfielder, also had lost lot of pace when he came to us.
Never a key player for Brasil like Paulinho though, think a lot of Spurs will be surprised when they see our man in the World Cup.

What Paulinho is doing in the opening match against Croatia is what he does for us. Loses possession but gets into box to tuck away ball into net. After many tries. Does not worry about defence.

For us, he should have the freedom to attack with Sandro protecting back four.

Or not, as the case may be.
