Maybe now that Roma are not in a Europe Competition we have a chance :D ....#overlyoptimistic

Btw. Roma were really fortunate to get him from the then Relegated River Plate, don't understand why other big teams weren't after him....

Don't do it to yourself, it will make the signing of Tom Ince even more depressing when we steal him last minute from Cardif.

Not going to happen unless Roma are in real financial trouble.

Celebrations at the lane would get boring anyway.....

My completely unrealistic starting 11 v Arsenal on August 31st:

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Jan BAE
Sandro
Paulinho Dembele
Bale Villa Lamela
vs
Chesney
Jenkinson Koscielny Mertesacker Monreal
Arteta
Wilshere Ramsey
Walcott Higuain Podolski
1 very good team. 1 unstoppable team.

Like our team crokey - be a wonderful window if that happened...even two of that 3 would make a big difference.
However, to be fair, you should probably add Cazorla to their lineup. Can also see them signing Fellaini/central midfielder + Cesar in goal. Still be very evenly matched!!

It's depressing to see a player like Cazorla play for them. Our team is crying for a player like Silva, Hazard, Mata, Isco, Lamela etc etc. it should be top priority, equal to a new striker in my mind.

I just don't believe this one. Not unless we are shifting Bale.... Lamela plays best cutting in from the right and I would be very surprised if we started playing Bale out left again. That on top of his fee which would probably be in the 20 mils.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to disagree. I do agrre, 100%, Lamela is a great player but as long as Gaz is still left it isn't likely.

I shall never talk to you again... Ever... In a million yea... Arg, who am I kidding, friends for life.

But yes, it Is a pipe dream, and when Bale goes I hope we go for him... But at the same time I hope that move doesn't come for many years.

Boring, lazy, 1+1=2 paper bs link. Baldini isn't even a manager so the concept of him having a favorite player he wants to bring with him to tottenham is laughable. As it was said earlier in the thread, his job will be to find (with his army of scouts) and purchase the NEXT Lamela.

Hey guys, roma fan here. I've been reading this forum and wanted to offer you guys some clarification on Roma's signing of Lamela.

Romas sporting director is Walter Sabatini, has been since 2011 prior to Baldini's arrival. He is highly rated in Italy and most of Europe as a Sports director and particularly a top talent scout as demonstrated whilst as Palermo ( Pastore, ilicic, harnandez, etc).

It was infact him who purchased, scouted and ultimately convinced Lamela to join Roma. He has a great knowledge if SA. Since his arrival Roma has purchased a number of top talents in Lamela, Marquinhos, Lopez, Pjanic and dodo. Sabatini had continually supported Lamela despite his inconsistent first season, he at one stage gambled his career in the media by stating that if Lamela didnt become a superstar, he would fail as a sports director.

Baldini's role was, being a Romanista to install a new direction, a new type of football and also to act as the mediator between the American Mamagement and the Roma fan base. His job was not signings but rather philosophy, staff management, media handling.

As a person who oozes class in his approach and being well respected figure, I must say that ultimately he failed Roma and her fans (the failure to select the correct coaches). He jumped ship when we needed him the most, and this will indeed be a huge failure on otherwise a great career. Despite this Roma fans have utmost respect and indeed love for the man, he will be remembered for his work in getting roma her 3rd Serie A trophy in 2001. I hope him all the best in taking spurs to the top of the premier league. Good luck Baldini and Spurs.

Finally i want to apologise for intruding your forum. I just wanted to offer Tottenham fans clarification around who actually bought Lamela to Roma. However given that Sabatini is now in charge of all things at Roma, Lamela will not be moving to spurs or anyone this summer unless a crazy Pastore-like sum is received.

I believe (based on what I read from the Arg papers at that time) Lamela was a massive stroke of luck for Roma, being that he was forced to leave River Plate as they were relegated and, thus, in massive debt. It was unforeseen that River Plate would go down (would b like us going down) cause he was set to stay there for a few more years; that's why Roma acted quickly, Lamela ultimately leaving for the good of the club. I believe Levy would have been all over this had he focused more on S.American players; Lamela was a ridiculous steal, almost embarrassing. Hopefully, now doesn't screw it up in similar ways, with the likes of Bernard, another true gem.

Sorry, but that's just wrong. River was not forced to sell Lamela. The debts has nothing to do with the relegation. And River's relegation is like Man United going down, not us.
River sold Lamela because Roma payed 20m euros for a 19yr old with only a season as a professional.
They had to sell him because it was an offer very difficult to refuse. Nothing to do with relegation or debt. Besides Lamela didn't want to leave

This deal would be very unlikely but if we pulled it off and kept bale and added a striker. Its a very gery atrong looking team! Shame we probably wont get him!

Hey guys, roma fan here.

Boooooo! :p

Seriously though, cheers for the info. I was under the impression that Baldini was the one with the South American inside knowledge/scouting and Sabatini just did the Director of Football bit in agreeing the deals. I'm sure Baldini was more involved in transfer strategy when under Fabio Capello.

Also, I'm inclined to agree with you that Lamela will not be leaving unless it's a huge offer, or if he gets persuaded to leave by a bigger club and kicks up a fuss. Roma don't need the money and the player has the best potential out of any in their squad. Totti won't last forever and De Rossi keeps getting itchy feet, they need another talisman and fantasista.

Tottenham are plotting a move for Roma playmaker Erik Lamela after failing to sign Brazilian forward Bernard. #THFC
