I think this agian shows the need to buy early, yes we bought a couple early on, but once again we left our best signings too late - and especially if they are not native speakers and from other leagues. Surly we knew who that our targets would be of this type, so once again we left it too late - If they had all come in around the same time or even before Soldado we could have hit the ground running, maybe even beat or at least drawn with the ARSE.
I know people will say football isn't like that and to get the price you wont there is a lot of negotiation - sorry but seems to me, we paid top dollar for all of our players this year, so for me that is BS, we were just to slow again.

It's not only about best price but because buying a player is like buying a house; there's a chain, with each club trying to secure a replacement before letting their man go. In the case of Roma they didn't have a replacement until near the end of the window, just as we didn't for Bale and so wouldn't let him go either. Which highlights a further point: the higher up the chain you are the longer you'll usually have to wait.

All of which is why I think we're wrong to think of player purchases merely in the context of the coming season.

Lamela's brother just released by kidnappers. Apparently taken on Friday but a ransom paid. They did not know who he was so the ransom was small...on Sky Sports news

Might explain why he did not start and comments made by AVB

Ransom of £550? I'd feel a tad insulted if I was Erik Lamela's brother...

You guys are looking too much into this. It is simply a case of bad timing w/ Lamela and the international break. He only flew when, Thursday before a game on Saturday? No doubt w/ some jet lag from South America and he had hardly trained w/ the team prior to the international break as well. For sure starts midweek and if he looks good in doing so will most likely start against Cardiff imo. Townsend has done nothing the last two games to keep Lamela out of the squad.

He had flown in Thursday-mid day. He only had 1 training session before the game. I expect him to get more time Thursday or be saved for Sunday.

AVB said in his post match press con that Lamela has a good chance of starting on Thurs. He arrived on Fri and had no time to train with the lads so was benched for Norwich

Hope he starts on Thursday. This is the one player I want to see having heard so much about him

I know it was a brief cameo, but he looked GOOD on Saturday. He was very tidy and kept the ball well, just when Norwich were beginning to push. We are fortunate at the moment that we have an absolute array of quality and there's no rush to get him in the team. I'm hoping he will be in line for a first start against Chelsea.

Lamela is in a new country, different league and doesn't speak the language. I think AVB is handling him just right. Plus Townsend deserves his chance.

I also think that AVB is showing loyalty to Townsend aswell, who has started the season well and would feel a bit miffed if he just got dropped straight away. Its good man management and the way AVB is managing our squad is great I personally think!

Exactly what he did with Friedel last season.

I wanna see Townsend on the left and Lamela on the right against Cardiff to be honest.

Townsend likes to cut inside, he doesn't really work the line. I don't know how that would play. I would much prefer Sig or Chadli in over him on the lw.

He still plays exactly the same on the left and is pretty good on his right and yes he does still take alot of shots. Dawson said it last week he is most 2 footed player at our club since he shoots with both all the time
