It's a big call but Dembele's ability and presence on the field should be Onomah's floor, not his ceiling

respectfully that it the kind of hype we have seen around the English Nat team for 20 years at lease. If he surpasses Dembele he will be among the top few players in the world (in his position)....no need for that kind of pressure and expectation yet

Pochettino has said previously that he wished that he had got his hands on Dembele when he was 18 and that if he had have he would be one of the worlds best.

Well he has that exact chance right now with Onomah. Developed correctly he could be a very special player. I hope we don't sign a CM and use Winks and Onomah as the primary rotation options in there next season. Both have outstanding potential and really could be anything for us.
thought about this comment myself!

the physical part will be so crucial...reminded of this comment from red nose about Bale (if Onomah can physically improve and really learn from Poch including becoming mentally stronger on the field he will be in good shape):
“He (Bale) was a left-back when we tried to sign him. It wasn’t until Harry (Redknapp) went to Tottenham that he converted him into a wide left player.

“He reminds me a bit of when we signed Lee Sharpe. He was a six foot, gangly, slim boy, but all of a sudden. he was built like a light heavyweight boxer.

“Bale is the same in the way he has developed in the last two years physically. He has matured very well.” With Bale beating Van Persie to both domestic awards, Ferguson believes that the United forward’s ten-game goal drought during February and March ultimately decided the outcome of the votes.

He played at times (at least in the final) at the Dier position 2 seasons ago, dropping back between the CB's - was quite surprised on his tackling ability, admit not watching a lot of youth game like many here do.
Hope he gains great confidence and bring that to PL next season; it really is a once a life time kind of competition, arguably harder to win/requires more luck than the world cup, as you get only one chance to win it.

I think Brighton would be a good loan, regular premier league football in a team that plays the right way, under a manager we can trust.
You also have Celtic who could offer him CL football, but I think testing himself week in week out in the Premier League should be the priority.

Obviously a lot depends on Poch's plans for Josh next season, but what we can't have is another season wasted like the one just gone.

England World Cup hero Josh Onomah wanted on loan by Brighton, Huddersfield and Celtic next season
Onomah has attracted host of clubs with outstanding performances during England Under-20s' World Cup-winning campaign in South Korea

BRIGHTON, Huddersfield and Celtic are in a three-way tussle for Spurs’ Josh Onomah, SunSports understands.

Onomah, 20, played a key role in England’s Under-20s winning the World Cup and will look to continue his momentum with more first-team football next season.
Premier League new boys Brighton and Huddersfield are keen to offer Onomah top flight experience next term.

But Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers can trump those offers with the chance to play in the Champions League.

The debate at Spurs’ training ground continues about Onomah’s best position, with Pochettino using the youngster in a wide role.

However, Young Lions boss Paul Simpson utilised him in a central midfield role, and his commanding performances in South Korea have put a host of clubs on red alert.

I'd much rather he go on loan and experience getting minutes in the premier league over the champions league. We need him to get a bit more physical.

Yeah at times he was very deep .If winks continues to develop then we have a bit of a problem .A nice problem, but possibly he could convert to a CB if his path becomes blocked in midfield .He certainly has all the physical attributes and seems very calm in position .He could almost become another dier ,slip into midfield when needed .Imo he has more potential than dier ,you never really see dier carry the ball and glide past people .

Absolutely no point in playing in Scottish football.

He won't be going out on loan. Poch has already said that he, Walker-Peters and Carter-Vickers will be more involved next season. Just hope he plays centrally.

Hopefully the taste for success sets a fire in him to work harder than ever to make it.

Considering that Dembele doesn't seem to be able to ply lots of games in a row, and Dier and Wanyama not the ideal pairing, there really should be plenty of opportunities for Onomah and Winks to play cm providing Poch doesn't sign anyone.

Josh Onomah happy to be mentored by Tottenham idol Mousa Dembele

Mousa Dembele has taken it upon himself to mentor Josh Onomah, who idolised the Belgian when growing up.

Onomah is one youngster Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to rely on more often next season after making his Premier League debut 18 months ago.

And the 20-year-old midfielder, who has been deployed wide but harbours long-term ambitions of a central role, revealed Dembele is constantly in his ear offering pointers.

'Since I've been training with the first team from 14 or 15, he's always been a role model,' Onomah said at a Special Olympics event organised by Spurs in Orlando.

'He's always spoken to me and I like the way he plays. I feel there are some similarities there.

'To be fair when I was growing up and I was watching him, before he was Spurs, when he was at Fulham, I liked the way he played.

'He's amazing. I thought we played similarly, and for other people to see that is just a great compliment.'

Onomah's exploits as England lifted the Under 20 World Cup this summer did not go unnoticed. Supporters believe he could well be Dembele's eventual successor and there has been encouragement from Pochettino.

'He's said the best players in training will play,' Onomah added. 'And for a manager to say that – that it doesn't matter about age or anything – that gives us great confidence as young academy players.

'We've seen the likes of Harry Kane, who's gone all the way up, so it's just down to us really.

'I have (thought about going on loan) but I trust the gaffer. He speaks to me. He gives me confidence when I'm low, when I'm down, and I believe in him.

'So whatever he thinks is the best for me, I'll stand behind him.'

Love this kid. He's obviously a bit of a confidence player but what kid isn't?

Think he'll have a great season bit like Winks last season before his injury. Never understood some on here saying they don't see anything in him, it's as clear as day how much raw talent the kid has.

Don't be down Josh, you'll be a chicken badge regular in a couple of years. In fact, when we're playing lesser teams at home I'd love to see him and Winks as the 2 in MF

Looked to have that touch more confidence yesterday than in his previous appearances for the first team. Was roaming around looking for the ball which we haven't really seen him do with the seniors before. Hopefully his World Cup experience has given him the boost he needed to believe he belongs at this level. Good signs.
