I have no idea what all the fuss is about only passes sideways gives the ball away with ease and just seems a little confused about what he has to do nothing seems fluid with him.

you miss the bit today where he received the ball, held off a player while he turned forward, then sprayed a nice forward pass to Tripps who nearly set Kane up with a cross.

I did see this,

But one thing in a game sadly is not enough to he needs to push on mind that anger and fire inside him and push himself onto the next level he just seems very laid back needs more

Add, can't time a tackle, can't press and spends most of the time strolling around you've summed up Dier as a CM perfectly.

The big issue that a lot of people have is the position he is asked to play on the pitch. While he can 'do a job' as an AM, those that have watched him as a normal central midfielder laud him, and when I've seem him play there, he looks so much better.

I don't think he has the talent to play the magic ball, final assist, but he can do the Dembele job, possibly mould into a Dembele/Modric hybrid (in terms of style of play, not ability per se)

It is bizarre posh doesn't try him in the central midfield position at all. It wouldnt be the first time a manager has had a blind spot about a player though

Spurs to tie down Onomah

Spurs are set to tie down England U20 starlet Josh Onomah on a new long-term deal.

Onomah, 20, impressed as England won the World Cup this summer with a series of mature displays as a box to box midfielder.
He has three years left on his contract at Tottenham but the North London club are keen to extend it on improved terms.

Onomah has top-flight and Championship clubs wanting to take him on loan this coming season.

But Onomah has done well on Spurs’ pre-season tour of America and is currently in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the season ahead.

Onomah previously sparked interest from Manchester United before penning his previous contract at White Hart Lane.

Onomah is yet to make his full Premier League debut for Spurs but has made 13 sub appearances in the top-flight and seven starts in Cup competitions.

You get the feeling this is set to be his breakthrough season for us.

It'll be tough for him to because his best position is definitely the in CM two, but he has dembele and winks ahead of him to partner a DM.

He isn't a winger, so unless he gets game time in the no 10 role and proves himself I think it'll be difficult for him to show what he can do.

yeah unless we play a 433 it's gonna be hard to get him CM minutes while everyone else is fit.

maybe Winks could play further up the pitch?

I think winks would be a better option than onomah further up the pitch, but Harry is doing a great job where he is.

Plus we never play a 433. It's 4231 or 3421

I think in some games you could play dembele with either winks or onomah, dembele often sits deep and is fairly good defensively

Especially if we're playing 3 CBs with Dier at the back.

That said, Wanyama was one of our best and most consistent performers last year.

Yeah I'm not knocking wanyama but at home against a weaker team I wouldn't be worried with dembele partnered with one of them or as you mentioned with 3 cb's

I think we can give the argument about his best position a rest for one game. I was at Spurs training session in Nashville, and Onomah was training by himself. Probably picked up a minor knock, but I don't think he will take part in the match tomorrow

It's not an argument really...

Anyone find it strange that Oakley-Boothe got some minutes in central midfield in the tour while Onomah did not?
