    100% agree
Bruce was under pressure, reverted to a 4-4-2. Results inproved and Josh out the team.
May be a long time before gets regular game time again

Got everything to be s top top player.Only thing missing for me is a bit of aggression, that’s where winks has the edge.

Very impressed by Onomah tonight - just oozes quality and class. Think 8 is his best position.

So, as someone who has only seen Onomah played out of position a handful of times, a question for those that have watched him a lot over the years: is he a CM, and how does he compare against Winks, who's broken through?

Also how did Dele Alli compare with Onomah and Winks when playing for England U17 & U18s?

    Who stood out more?

Defo a CM,probably more deep sitting than winks.very similar in style to dembele.Never looks flustered and can control a game and glide past people.Seems to have a bit of a goal scoring touch as well. For me he’s a bit to laid back at times.Winks for me plays a bit more advanced and is a bit more up and at em.very quick delivery of pass. For me winks could be AM but not sure josh can.Their biggest similarity is they are both technically very good.Eventually could make a great partnership.

yes, he's a cm and always has been. even when he's played further forward at youth level he's never looked particularly comfortable so him looking awkward in the first team was as much, if not more, to do with where he was being played rather than just because of the step up in quality.

as for how he compares against winks, well whilst there's no perfect correlation between how well a player does at youth level and how they do in the senior game he was always just that little bit ahead at youth level. that's why he initially broke through to the first team setup a year before winks despite being a year younger and he also played for england's u21s before winks. if only one of them can make it here then so be it but it's just frustrating with onomah as for me he's never properly been given the chance to show his ability here but hopefully he will at some point in the future, he is only 20 so it's still relatively early days.

in alli's england age group you had ruben loftus-cheek who was seen as the "star" and you also had lewis baker alongside him who was also highly thought of. after that alli and winks typically fought for the same spot(although would sometimes both play), alli was a little bit ahead but there wasn't much in it. alli never played with onomah so it's hard to compare them.

I rate Josh, but Winks controls a game (especially tempo) much more. Josh is still too laid back. His U20 games showed his potential, but he needs to step up more.

To take that ball as he did, spot the pass almost instantly and play it to perfection is a great skill to have, and one that not many CM's have let alone CM's in our team.

I have posted this before but think its worth while re posting.
At the Chelsea home game last season I had the great pleasure of sitting next to Ugo Ehiogu. I asked him of all the juniors who was our best prospect. He said without doubt Onohma. The big problem was how could he break into a midfield of Dier Wanyama and Dembele. His appearances had been small cameos on the wing which he was not suited to and did not do him justice, however he was certain he would make it as he was the most talented young player he had ever coached.
I also asked him about Edwards and he said he had all the talent but they had to get his head right. He was certain that Onohma would make is and break into the first team sooner rather then later as he was so talented.

Funnily enough this goal thing is quite new and I'm not convinced yet that he will be a proper goalscorer. His shooting has improved so much though. He also used to play CAM while Winks only played CM. I think Onomah and Winks could both do a job there but prefer him in CM or in a midfield 3. I think he'd also do a good job in the behind a striker.

Did you mean Charlie Colkett as Baker was the year above.

To add to BG, I never saw Alli play for Dons but saw him a few times for England and Winks. As above neither were the main players and when I saw them play they looked as good as each other.

Whereas Onomah was a main stay in the age group below which was England's most talented age group until the 00s and arguably the 99s. I'd definitely say Onomah was a lot better and a key player for England in an age group that was the best at its time, and has one 2 international competitions, than either Winks or Alli were. I'd also argue Oduwa played better for England than Winks did before Oduwa ended up getting battered at Rangers.

Alli while blessed with the special talent of being a goalscorer benefitted from coming through a lower league club like Bishop and Maddison, who people wanted, before Winks got a chance with us. But just like now when he isn't scoring he was never remarkable imo for England, which is probably why I got the wrong end of the stick with him, and urs why I've always said even before we bought Alli, Winks and Onomah were as good or better CMs than him.

So basically Onomah has always been just ahead of Winks and looked better for England than both Winks and Alli. Which is why people who have watched him are so keen for him to get a chance in CM and are annoyed when he plays on the wing, as he has never ever played there in the academy.

This guy is a massive England youth watcher and has been following the for years, well before me, and tweeted this yesterday.

The comments above by Ugo don't surprise me. Again all this is not to say Winks wasn't quality or highly rated. Whenever I asked or spoke about players being ready for first team of always use Winks and Onomah interchangeably as as much as I'd want both given a chance I'd be gutted if neither did. I'm glad one has and look how well he's doing

Let Onomah have full season at Villa playing in his best position and see how he fairs.. What I've seen so far, its been mainly positive.

Problem is he's already reduced to a sub. Not started any of Villa's last 4 games I believe, and Villa won all those games.

Poch will have a real conundrum come the end of the season. For 1 creative midfield role we have.
Dembele-The main man but injuries a worry
    Sissoko-Vastly improved offers something different
    Winks-Now an England senior
    Onomah-We all know the potential
    TOB-looks a major talent
Barkley-seriously questioning if we need him
Imo we can have 3 max.wouldnt include TOB as Still youth. So you’d think one of sissoko/winks/Onomah will have to go that’s not even taking into account Barkley.Or I suppose there’s the possibility to call time on dembele.Honestly don’t have a clue what I would do.
