Explains why we haven’t been strongly linked to many CMs apart from N’Dombele. Guessing he will be given his chance to prove himself!

Good to hear re: Onomah.

Massive shame injured as would have used pre-season as a chance to play him in engine room alongside Wanyama or Dier to see how he did.

With Dembele fitness being an issue we need options in the middle and whilst if fit I think Winks would get nod alongside a destroyer Onomah if he can reach his potential would be a good option.

He was misused again at Villa last season as Bruce kept playing him further up pitch... (n)

In a completely crazy world would love to see this:

Llloris

KWP -- Sanchez -- Vertonghen -- Rose

Dier (Wanyama) -- Onomah

Dele -- Eriksen -- Son (Moura swapped with Dele)

Kane

OR

Lloris

Alderweireld -- Sanchez -- Vertonghen

KWP -- Wanyama -- Onomah -- Rose

Dele -- Eriksen

Kane

Also reckon Onomah and Winks could form an effective combo.

You believe he is ready for that role?

I hope he does break through even though I am not sure he will. Would be a boost for us if he did.

@Hercules - thank you for the update.

That injury news is really disappointing to hear.

Firstly, the player's substantive contract is with Spurs, not the loaning club. I thought all top clubs included clauses ensuring considerable input on how significant injuries were treated when they loaned a player. I'm pretty sure I remember occasions when we've brought loanees back for mid-week medical treatment, rather than risk the loaning club having control and taking decisions in their own short-term interest.

Secondly, there's talk that Josh is doing limited work to avoid surgery. But it's frankly nuts for a player with an injury that limited him for several months at Villa and which has ruled him out of pre-season contention in a crucial year for his devlopment to be in this situation. I would hope our medical staff assessed him at the end of last season, before he went on holiday. But if they hoped rest would solve the problem, it's clearly back-fired.

If you look at our US tour squad, Wanyama is the only genuine CM. Plus Sissoko, for those - not me - who think he can play there.

Our best home grown CMs, Winks and Onomah, are both in the treatment room as we approach the new season.

So, we're short in CM, and we have to hope one or more of TOB, Skipp, Amos and Marsh steps up. It's a great opportunity for them.

That is his position - why keep playing him out of position further up as you can't judge him unless he is played properly.

It would be like pushing Dier or Wanyama up into the attacking midfield roles and then saying they aren't much good as not impressing.

He's had the last 3 seasons to show he's ready to push on and hasn't taken it. Why do you believe this season will be any different.

Has he ever been played in his proper position?

Or has he constantly been played out wide or in the number 10 role...

Having less data greatly decreases the odds of your data points being a representative of performance.
Again, not necessarily. If you are actually placing the player in training situations most similar to game conditions (expt design) then the info gleaned will be more reliable.

Based on your screen name, I can understand how you think that using less data or say, going to fewer classes, would provide just as good of results.
Now idea what you're talking about here other than an attempted jab at my beloved Heels. I will let is slide as I see you are from W-S and we don't beef-down from the Hill.:D

Or has he not shown he's good enough in training for that role so Poch kept him further up the field as to not expose us in the midfield?

He's never going to learn if he isn't played regularly in the position though is he? With some time and patience there I think he will come good. I honestly don't see what Poch has to lose in League Cup games for example.
