If we sell onomah we might as well close the academy. He’s had no chances in his best position. But the boy has to start thinking about himself. He’s had a taste of first team football now. Maybe that’s the real reason Poch doesn’t like loans, he loses control of the player.
Little bit of an over reaction. There are no guarantees that the academy will produce the next Lionel Messi and there will be many more Josh Onomah's than Harry Kane's. There are some real gems come through in recent years.. Kane, KWP, Rose, and CCV are a few who either have progressed or are likely to progress.

I’ll go on what I’ve seen thanks.

Nobody, even the coaching staff, know how he’d do playing central midfield for a run of games in the premier league, because he hasn’t done it yet has the talent to do so. They simply don’t know because they haven’t done it!

So in that regard they know as much as us.
So every player that has some talent should have a ‘run’ in the first team ? Regardless of the players we already have for that position ?

No they know much more because they have seen him in training and we haven't. I think it tells a lot that Winks has been given chances at CM and Josh has not. Maybe, just maybe, Winks has shown himself in training to be a better CM. From what I have seen of the two, that would also be my opinion. Josh has more physical gifts but I do not thing he is the better player.

Thinking you know as much as our coaching staff about a player they see everyday is pure arrogance

Fallacy. Having more data points does not necessarily mean one's interpretation of the data is improved, which is the implication of your statement.

Onomah, on lasts seasons showing, is not a first team player yet.
However, he has improved significantly from his previous showings against Wycombe etc.
And his words at the end of last season's loan make me think the penny has dropped as to what is necessary to make it at the top.

I suspect we might see Onomah push on again this season.

I live out in the sticks so admittedly have never seen this guy in a live match. But any games he’s featured in over the last couple of years he’s looked ok, but not worth losing shit over. Sorry, it just hasn’t been so obvious on the telly

Close the academy haha that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. We've spent years building one of the finest training complexes in the world to attract the finest talent, experienced and young so they can feel that Tottenham is the best place to further develop. Give it ten years and watch how many top class youngsters will be part of the 1st team because of all the investment made in our grassroots and you want to close that down because of Josh Onomah? Our Academy products (Bentaleb, Carroll, Caulker, Livermore, Mason, Pritchard & Townsend) have all generated a further £75m for the club as well, all through the development of youth not to mention what Edwards, Carter-Vickers, Walker-Peters, Skipp etc may turn into for us either as footballers or revenue through the hard work we have done for their careers to launch. We've also got one or two players that play a pretty key part in our first team these days in Winks and the current England captain Kane as well as the current club ambassador, Ledley King coming through the ranks (Peter Crouch did to and he's only 1 of 28 players to score 100 goals or more in the Premier League so he definitely counts as an Academy success in recent years), not costing us a penny through the nurturting of his and their talents but yeah, you're right, we may as well close the academy down because Josh Onomah is being linked with a move away. Crikey some of our fans don't get it do they.

We aren't just developing first team players for the team, we're developing a constant flow of solid footballers that go on to have decent careers either lower down the leagues or in the lower half of the Premier League. Imagine how good our talent will be now we have a head start on most clubs in Europe when it comes to our academy facilities, but Josh Onomah might go so let's shut the whole thing down. Mental!

Perhaps he doesn't get a chance in his 'best position' because he can't do the required defensive and off the ball work that the position requires?

On the few occasions he did play CM for Villa according to the Villa fans he was dreadful. Terrible defensively, very lazy in his tracking of the opposition midfielders and he had no defensive awareness. I remember reading them saying that there was a reason why he wasn't playing more CM for them when Spurs fans were saying he should be and it was because he couldn't do these things.

You can't just compromise an entire midfield structure just to give a kid who's decent on the ball an opportunity.

Very important point here that is being lost on many this summer. And judging by our ITK the manager and DL with their recruitment.

Haha I'm sorry, I don't really follow. In what respect, mate?
Lack of ITK on CMs (as proxy for Poch and DL's concern for the MF) and the sheer number of posters deciding it would be good tactically to drop Dele and/or Eriksen there.

You made the point that Onomah has significant defensive weaknesses that would leave us wide open and is thus not playing CM. Likewise these other options would do the same.

I agree with you if we play with a two-man midfield again. In that case I definitely think we would need to buy a new CM. However, if we play a three man midfield as has been suggested then there would be less concern over Dele and Eriksen playing midfield and we probably need another wing/forward player. A lot will depend on how we set up this season, so the ICC matches over the next week or so could prove very interesting.

Having less data greatly decreases the odds of your data points being a representative of performance. Based on your screen name, I can understand how you think that using less data or say, going to fewer classes, would provide just as good of results.
