Like what ive seen of Wimmer thus far. He will undoubtedly get some games now and that will tell us if he got it or not.

I went to the game on Saturday but unfortunately had to sit with the home support. Not ideal when you witness the best goal you've ever seen your team score but shit happens.

I was watching as Wimmer was waiting to come on the pitch. I can say without exaggeration that Pardew was in his ear for about a minute no doubt doing his best to unsettle Kev on his debut.

Needless to say he remained focussed, came on the pitch and aquitted himself well. I think he shows great potential and fits in well

Fucking Pardew.

Saw great comment on the Guardians comment section from the user "Magnusson":

"Pardew is hilarous. Before the game he claimed that the only differebce between the sides was Kane - "if Palace had a player like Kane we'd be top4". After the game he says that Lloris made the difference (ignoring the multiple saves from of Hennessy). Two minutes later, asked about Alli he says that players like Alli and Chadli who can produce a bit of magic is what differentiates spurs from Palace ("we dont have those type of players"). Then he comments on the quality of Vertonghen and Alderwiereld and how their technical ability meant that Palace couldn't get on the ball.

So in the space of 2 days Pardew has gone from saying that the only difference between the two sides was Kane, to admitting that the difference between the two sides is the keeper, the defence, the midfield and the striker.

The worst thing about all this is that he sends completely the wrong message to his players. How deflated will have Hennessy and Wickham felt hearing their own manager make unflattering comparisons with Spurs players."

And for Wimmer: He'll play so fucking well that Vertonghen will have a hard time getting back in.
So there.

I'm a crazy optimist today.

Can't see him being as solid as Vertonghen who has been top class this season. He can't get into the Austria national team so I wouldn't expect him to help us much.
i'm curious why do you even support the club, clearly u don't get any joy from it?

On a separate note, I went over to London at Christmas and managed to watch us play Norwich, and as me and my son were eating our kebab after the game a bunch of guys came in and one of them was wearing a Wimmer 27 shirt on which I thought was interesting yet nice to see. Not exactly the world known player you'd buy a shirt of, but we thought they could have been from Austria and were just being patriotic.

Was rather nice to see I must say!

http://talksport.com/football/hes-j...ochettino-confident-kevin-wimmer-can-impress?

Kevin Wimmer could be ready for a Premier League title fight at the end of deputising for Jan Vertonghen, according to Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Austria defender Wimmer has been tipped to come of top-flight age in Vertonghen's expected two-month absence due to knee-ligament damage.

The 23-year-old should start Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round trip to Colchester - and then Pochettino wants him to jump at the chance for an extended first-team run.

Pochettino believes holding off from bolstering his defensive resources in January will allow Wimmer crucial experience that could pay off handsomely if Spurs are chasing top honours come the end of the season.

"This is a good example of when we rotate and give the possibilities to other players," said Pochettino.

"You never know when something wrong can happen and we are sure Kevin (Wimmer) can do well.

"He has had the possibility to play in different games, not as much as maybe he expects. But he has been good.

"He has shown the quality and his team-mates trust him.

"It is important because you never know when a problem will arrive and maybe the player who does not play too much will be a key player to achieve big things."

Confirming centre-back Vertonghen is likely to miss two months with his knee problem, Pochettino explained why he could hold off from trying to bring in defensive reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.

"I understand you ask me why we rotate but the squad is important," said Pochettino.

"If something happens in the future and you have the last five games of the Premier League, in this moment you need help from the player who has not played too much.

"If they deserve to play you need to give them the possibility to play.

"Maybe the injury will be two months for Jan (Vertonghen). You never know about injuries and how the knee reacts and the process.

"Sometimes it is early or late, all bodies are different.

"But in my mind it is two months."

Wimmer made his Premier League debut in Saturday's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, replacing Vertonghen in the closing stages.

The former Cologne defender joined Spurs in the summer, but is now being tipped to cement his future with the club.

"He is very calm, he has a very good left foot, he's very strong, and a very good person,"
said Pochettino.

"He has a lot of good attributes. He is very young, and now he has more possibility to play.

"He is like Vertonghen - but younger!"

How did he look today? Missed the match, unfortunately.

Pretty solid, none of their chances were down to him as far as I can remember. He would probably benefit from having Dier ahead of him instead of Bentaleb and Alderweireld beside him..

The guy looks good. very good passing and strong in the tackle

Bigger tests in front of him but so far so good. I can't remember who it was on here saw him a couple of matches back and said he looked a little weak in the air. we shall see

Hardly put a foot wrong so far, very promising. Don't want to jinx it, but I thing the summer was the first transfer window in memory where every signing has turned out well.

Norwich vs Tottenham: Kevin Wimmer shapes up for Spurs central casting

With Jan Vertonghen out for two months with a knee ligament injury, the best centre-back partnership in the country has been broken up

Kevin Wimmer is ready to make his first Premier League start for Tottenham tomorrow, having slimmed down since arriving last summer. Through the manager Mauricio Pochettino’s gruelling training sessions and Spurs’ healthy eating regime, including cooking classes, he has got into shape, preparing him for the vital role he has in their season now.

With Jan Vertonghen out for two months with a knee ligament injury, the best centre-back partnership in the country has been broken up. Wimmer will partner Toby Alderweireld instead, having started six games in the cups so far. The Austrian looked assured in the 4-1 win at Colchester United on Saturday and spoke afterwards about how he has prepared himself for the step up to Premier League football.

“I have improved myself a lot in my first months in England,” said Wimmer. “My body shape is much better than before I came here. It was good, but now it is even better. My body fat has gone down a lot because of the hard training and now I take care of what I eat all the time.”

Some of this is down to the gruelling hard work of a Pochettino pre-season, which Wimmer enjoyed straight after joining from Cologne for £4million last summer.

The fact that Wimmer has been on the fringes of the team so far has given him even more time to train hard. “If you don’t play so much, you can train a lot and work a lot on your fitness,” he said. “So I have done a lot of extra work – and I can feel it.”

Just as important, though, has been Wimmer’s improved diet, under Spurs’ supervision. Like all new signings from abroad, he has been given cooking classes by the club. Just as helpfully, he can take healthy food home from the canteen at the training ground, ensuring he avoids bad habits.

“We get such healthy food in the canteen, which we didn’t have in Germany,” Wimmer said. “They let us take some home, which is good for me because I live by myself, so I don’t have to cook. It’s always nice.”

This all means that Wimmer, who has a naturally big frame, is certainly sharp and quick enough for top-flight football. He will play at Norwich City tomorrow night and presumably against Watford on Saturday. “I am ready to do it,” he said, “that is what I train for.”

Pochettino said last week that Wimmer is “like Vertonghen, but younger”, and the 23-year-old saw the comparison with the man he is due to replace. “I have tried to learn a lot from him in my first few months with the club,” Wimmer said. “Jan is one of the best in the Premier League. He is always very calm on the ball, I try to be as calm as him. Maybe in a few years I can be as strong as him.”

Nacer Chadli, 26, was the oldest of Spurs’ outfield starters on Saturday. This is still a very young group but they are competing seriously on three fronts and Pochettino wants them to prove that they are not too young to win.

“It is true that we have a lot of younger players, but the right youngsters, as they have a very strong mentality and they are hungry,” he said. “We need to have senior players who are hungry and young ones that push a lot and want to win the title. The most important thing is balance.”

Pochettino wants to prove wrong the doubters who say they are too young to win the title. “It is difficult to tell whether we are younger or older,” he said. “This is a topic in football, we need to demonstrate that it is not true.”

I've been feeling pretty confident about Wimmer stepping in but reading "the best centre-back partnership in the country has been broken up" has made the situation dawn on me.

I just hope we don't look back at this event as the start of the colllapse.
