I think it’s pretty obvious when someone says they hate Sissoko, they mean they hate that he plays in our team as opposed to hating the man himself. You can’t hate a player who puts in effort and does his best for the team no matter how limited he is. He didn’t put a gun to Levy’s head and force us to sign him.

That said, I think we all know he isn’t really good enough for a top 6 team. I’ve read a few comments like ‘he wasn’t as bad as Player X on Saturday’ etc but that’s not actually a compliment is it? That’s just saying he was our second worst player on Saturday. I read stuff like that quite a lot.

Out of all the sentiments written about him, the one I agree with most is that because he’s set the bar so low for himself, every singe extremely average performance he makes is made out by some people to be a great performance, whereas what they probably really mean is that it was a great performance ‘for him’ - but if Eriksen or Dembele etc had put in the same performance they’d have been slated.

I hope he proves all us doubters wrong. We all know his limits so maybe if one day he produces a powerhouse performance against a team like Arsenal where he presses and tackles and fouls and fights and basically puts in a ‘Dier v Chelsea’ type performance then we’ll take him to our hearts more. I think that’s what he’ll have to do to win the fans over because he’ll struggle to do so using ability alone.

Sissoko does not set the bar, he is the bar.

"1st September. The window has closed and Sissoko's signing was confirmed last last night while I'm spending my last hours in Ibiza. I think Daniels though process was "he's a good player, but Maurichio will make him better."

"We'll see."

Little snippet for the book.

Doesn't appear to be a Poch signing that's for sure despite what many an ITK stated.

@tiger666 @Eric_s

I'm not quite sure why you've rated my post with a dislike?

Care to shed some light on that?

Sissoko is not of the technical level of our other midfielders, and his touch can be surprisingly bad and make him look very poor. But he’s probably our most powerful runner, with or without that ball, and breaks opposition lines more often than a lot of our more technically adept players. Anyone saying he is crap and shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting line up is mugging off Pochettino (our best manager in my 38 years supporting spurs), who has forgotten more about football than anyone on here ever knew. His ‘miss’ against Burnley was actually not that bad a finish, and the keeper pulled off a great reflex save with his trailing foot despite being sent the wrong way. Kane, Eriksen and Alli would almost certainly have scored, but I don’t think any of our other players would have done any better, especially not Winks, Dier or Wanyama who are players in Sissoko’s position. And Son, who has been on fire recently, had a much worse miss and a less effective game than Sissoko.

Someone gets it, quality post.

I was gonna say I don’t understand why this got a dislike as it’s not abusive or nasty in anyway, then I see which poster disliked it, says it all really

Odd people.

I'm happy that my stance on Sissoko is fair. I'm not a fan and I admit that but if you were to look back through my posts you'd see I have given him lots praise when he's performed well.

The post was to note that the book appears to shed some light on Poch's view on the signing - it was a direct quote with the page finishing with "We'll see."

Seems pretty obvious to me but even if I've read too much in it, the section implies Poch wasn't the main motivator behind the move.

I could understand if you may want to 'disagree'. Dislike isn't really the ratings to use but hey ho. People have their own agendas.

He is very much the eleventh name on the team sheet, and I think his fee does inflate expectations. If we had a £5m signing as a squad player, with a new one coming in every season for £5m, we would be okay with him, but given the total fee and the lack of other signings at the time Sissoko was already facing an uphill battle.

The key issue for me is will he get in the way of the youngsters who are trying to break through. At the momemnt, the likes of TOB or Skipp might just be a tad too young to be playing decent minutes in the first team, and Onomah is out on loan, but next season (or if Onomah is recalled) I want them battling on an even playing field with Sissoko, and in my opinion more often than not getting the chance ahead of him.

Personally, I would have kept Onomah at the club and had him competing with Sissoko for that occasional start, often sub role, but next season I want to see that happening. Sissoko puts in a shift but technically he is very, very poor.

Our play seems so much sharper when he isn't in the team. The ball is moved quicker and the players have all options open rather than all bar one.

I’m losing hope of life every time I see him play. I don’t care if I get hate from this but seriously he can fu*k off from this club! Yes it isn’t his fault we paid so much money from him and playing him, and he’s decent when we’re playing teams that are more open but seriously I can’t take it anymore. We can’t let Poch have him as a option. I would much rather us recalling Onomah. It feels like Poch is so stubborn that he refuse to accept that he’s a major flop so he keeps playing him.

From minute one he was only ever passing sideways or back. This has to stop. He brought less than nothing to that team tonight. A total waste of a player when we needed guile to break those boring twats open

Surely there’s a local 5 a side team that needs a sub and we can offload him to

How people can defend him when he puts in a 6/10 performance every 10 games and is dogshit for the rest, I don’t know. A genuinely atrocious footballer who brings nothing to our side

You’d think we’d be actively trying to sell him but there’s surely no one stupid enough in world football to take him

I've been watching Spurs since 1977 and I've seen some shit over the years, .but I can't recall being able to remember anyone who failed to grasp the basic control of a football until I saw and witnessed Sissoko..

Tbf to Sissoko, he has generally done a lot better than last season, and is put in decent performances for someone of his ability. He works hard which I didn't expect and seems like a good guy. I don't particularly rate him and see that he has a place in the squad. I didn't want him to join but I've accepted him for who he is. I don't think he had a particularly bad game today he is an easy scapegoat. I feel he did as well as he could do against a team sitting back and probably shouldn't have played today.

He can obviously be upgraded just feel the blame today shouldn't be placed as his door.
