I’d also add that sending Royal on loan to another team that plays a wingback system is the best way to end up with him back at the club in the summer. He needs to go to a club that play a back 4 and move on with his career in the position he is suited to
Wouldn't finding a move for Royal elsewhere and loaning Spence there make more sense?

This will reek of a missed opportunity if we don't sign him this window. Any decent player we're linked with and told 'we're waiting to the summer' ends up elsewhere.

Someone on here did a decent job of summarising the tax implications when paying the release clause of a player from Portugal/Spain, can't find it but wonder if that would put us off paying the release clause even if the player fee is the same now or in the summer.

Which is no different from what we have been told day one. It makes complete sense why they don't want to sell. Why would anyone in there position? You would hope that if we are still actively pursuing him now as our top target that we are well aware of that and content to do so if another solution can't be found.

ITK have also said he's not top of Conte's list (although OK to take him). Maybe something else is going on behind the scenes.

I hope not personally. Wouldn't it just be nice to get something over the line without it turning into a protracted melodrama?

Oh yeah, absolutely it would.

I just wanted to mention a possible smokescreen for smokescreen's sake because it isn't a transfer window without a smokescreen. We all know this.

As far as release clauses go these days this seems very reasonable, I don't really get what makes this deal so difficult? Is it because they'd need the whole £39m up front?

Surely we can afford to pay that amount for such a key position, and we'll be able to claw some of it back with the eventual sale of Emerson.

Pedro Porro would probably transform our season. Having both sides as a threat is a big, big issue for teams to sort out.

It's because we already in Levy's eyes have 3 rwb's. At least one needs to go.

I think the issue isnt about paying the release clause. I think it's more to do with the other 3 RBs we currently have in the squad.

I think at least one would need to leave or go out on loan to even sanction the move for Porro. Don't think it's a case of money, but more to do with the bloated squad atm.

Edit: just seen the above 2 posts before I posted this. I guess that is the case after all.

Surely we can do that after? Its imperative that we sign a new RWB. Above any other position.
Just pretend Emerson is a shite CAM would be an option to reduce the numbers xD

I think its definitely something Levy won't sanction until one of the 3 have left. Because why pay wages for 4 RB when ideally and mainly one will play with the second one rotating. From a wages point of view its not currently worth it.

Buying Porro isn't the issue here, it's the current players we have taking up spaces required to proceed with it.

Indeed "kind of". If one of them isn't going to play, then you also kind of don't.
Just hope that one of them moving on is spence going on loan, and that is enough for levy to allow us to get porro
