Ryan Mason - decent footballer. No more than that. I would keep him due to the home grown quota we need. An alright squad player. Hes tenacious and I like that in a player. But for me limited ability. Yes he was part of a young 2 man partnership in Bentaleb, but them 2, along with the team were steamrollered at times the last 2 seasons.

Ask yourself if one of the big clubs would have him - arse, citeh, yanited, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. No chance. If he went he would at a middle of the road club like Stoke.

Then ask yourself if Dembele would get in those clubs. He absolutely would easily.

Then ask yourself why we've been poor since Dembele has been suspended vs wba, soton and Newcastle.

Then ask yourself why we lost home vs Newcastle, away to West Ham. No Dembele.

Mason is nowhere near the standard required to challenge for league honours, let alone deputise for Dembele who is in a totally different class
That's a lot of questions I'd have to ask myself. I don't have that many answers.

LOL you talk so much shit its untrue. How dare you have the audacity to bring into question somebody else's opinion. Just because you've donated over £1000 to this site doesn't make your opinion better than mine or any less nonsensically retarded. Please dont ever @ me ever again.

@SargeantMeatCurtains
No need to worry, the £1000 I've donated definitely hasn't made my opinion any less nonsensically retarded than yours.

mason is delaying a surgery to correct a problem. He is not really injured. If Poch actually send out players who are not fit to play then Poch is going against his own philosophy. I have watch Lineker played in pain and he scored a hattrick.
This makes sense to me, thanks for pointing it out. (y)

I'm definitely in the camp that says we need another strong midfielder. We just seem to lose so much presence in the midifeld when dembele is out. Teams seem to counter us much easier when they break through the high press and Dembele isn't there in the second press to retrieve and then retain possession. I still have hope that Bentaleb can provide an alternative but i've seen enough of Mason and Caroll to think they need to be upgraded.

Last season Dembele was washed up underachiever and Mason was the coming man, this season Mason is not fit to lace Dembele's boots.

Or possibly last season Dembele was struggling for fitness and this season has benefitted from a run in the team, whereas last season Mason benefitted from a run in the team and this season has struggled for fitness.

You would think that Spurs fans might have learnt from writing off Rose and Walker after seasons where they underachieved due to injury problems. But no, those knees keep jerking.

Agree with this. Mason's got the engine to get into the box so he offers something different. I think he will be important next season.

Mason was turning in very good performances at the beginning of the season, for me he was MOTM in the Sunderland match in which he was injured. He obviously never even remotely recaptured that form and I don't doubt for a second that he is not fully recovered.

So the issue as far as I see it is not that Mason isn't good enough to be a part of he squad when at his best, but rather that his injury record is such that we would be foolish to place any reliance upon him to provide squad depth and meaningful competition next season. He's only managed to stay fit one time in his entire career (2014-2015 season), we can't go into next year with him as our main option to rotate with Dembele.

I have no problem at all if Poch wants to keep him around but it should be in the role that Carroll currently occupies in the squad -- third choice. We need two quality midfielders, one DM and one CM, in the coming transfer window.

Can we please push Mason further forward? He grew up playing up front and now we expect him to control the game from midfield the way Dier and Dembele do? I don't get Poch's reasoning on this.

As I've argued this on multiple occasions, I don't think it's too far removed from knee jerking to pull one or two examples out of a hat of players who benefitted from being given time. Each player is different, there is no such thing as a universally secure way of improving simply through time an patience alone, just because specific players benefitted greatly from it. And as far as Walker goes, well jury is very much out, I find.
