Not denying the clause...

Leaked documents last week suggested the 27-year-old had a £25.4million release clause in his contract, although Tottenham strongly denied its existence.

Alderweireld added: “I signed for Tottenham for a reason and I love to play here. I see no problem there. Whatever has been written, I am only focusing on football because that is what I love to do.”

The clause is in his contract but it only comes into play once his current contract expires/is expiring so it's a total non-event.

Only applies if we trigger a year extension, but we'll either get him on a longer contract before then or sell him for bank. It was just a story to excite Chavs

His injury sounded horrendous.

http://m.goal.com/s/en-gb/news/2896...llion-knee-injury-alderweireld/client/mobile/

"My leg didn't work and I had to start all over again. The nature of the problem also meant that for a while, my foot didn't work properly, so I had do as much recovery work as possible without using my foot.

"I could walk, but not as I normally would, because it was difficult to lift up my foot. It was difficult for the medical staff to put a time on my recovery because we didn't know. It could have been two weeks, six weeks, maybe three months more.

John Stones should just sit for hours on end and watch Alderweireld videos. This is what a ball playing defender is supposed to look like. He's composed and good on the ball, but never takes any chances. Doesn't play passes that puts his teammates under pressure they don't want to be under, and is not afraid to boot the ball away if the situation requires it.

Jamie Redknapp said. ““There seem to be fewer leaders and organisers like Toby Alderweireld. These days, defenders and even goalkeepers are required to play out from the back, while full backs are more like frustrated wingers.

“Defenders are thinking more about their passing stats than anything else! They are more likely to take risks and that is leading to more goals. While that is great for fans, it puts a premium on good defenders.”

Did Jamie then say he thought he would be perfect for Man United?! :)

Been trawlin but can't find anything on why he was sidelined today?

Not another minor issue, hopefully, eh Poch...

See he's in most starting elevens for St Mary's...

Something to do with his back apparently. Pochettino said he's not injured, so guess it was precautionary.

It is mental how different we look when Dier is in there instead of Toby. I like Dier, but CB isn't his strongest position anymore.

In the risk of being slightly controversial, he was never the most solid centre back for us...

We used to leak goals left right and centre when we played Dier and Vertonghen together in Poch's first season.

Because were a poor defensive unit as an entire team that's why, not because of our CB pairing.

And Eric Dier was a 20 year old playing in England for the first time.

And Vertonghen was coming off a couple of years when he was less than pleased with where the club was going and was thus not in his best form.

Missed the game yesterday but just saw that Toby was himself missing? Whats up with him now? I though Poch said his back problem wasn't a problem?
