I know how this sounds but for me, Ledley King was and still remains the best defender in the history of the Premiership, including both English and non-English players.
All I can do is just echo all the earlier posts on these first 2 pages.

King without doubt.

You can't get better and your family can't argue with Henry's words. But also to add here's what Edgar Davids says -

"I played with the best. Zinedine Zidane made me look differently at star players. Some guys with that talent don’t work so hard or want different treatment. Not him. Man, those skills. One player people don’t ask me about but should is Ledley King. Left and right foot perfect, fast, almost never made a foul. Technically, he is so gifted. So relaxed on the ball. But those knees."

Also in this video Woodgate (who seem's like a proper nice bloke) eulogises about him

Got a family barbecue on Saturday and my cousins and uncle all support arsenal.

I have mentioned that Ledley was a better defender, obviously they are having none of it.

Firstly, putting the fact we're spurs fans aside, who do you think was better and why? I need to prove them wrong this weekend so surely you guys can give me some ammunition against them!

Cheers!

King played with his knees being fucked up, and was still the better defender than Campbell. No contest.

Man I fucking wish we had won something better than the league cup for the King.

It disgusts me how much Campbell has won compared to King given how much a better player King is.

But everyone who's played alongside him wants to talk about how they played alongside King, anyone who played against him wants to talk about how they played against him.

No one wants to talk about Campbell. Literally no fucks are given. Ambassador of no club, favourite player of no fan, schmoozes with middle-class white folk whilst playing the race card....

Campbell may have been a winner, but he will never be a hero.

Gotta love Woodgate, he's played with some footballing Gods, you won't see too many better teams on the fantasy 11. He's a funny guy too.

Back on to the King, what he did, basically not training and then putting in incredible performances against top premier league players was unprecedented. Plus he could play midfield, you would never see Campbell control the ball with his left foot and stick it in the top corner like Ledders did.

What if sol had never left, those 2 would have been formidable together in their prime and gone down as potentially best in prem history

King - absolutely no doubt.

Judas was very good - Ledley was outstanding. A case of the pupil outclassing the master.

Ledley. Sol was a great old fashioned centre back, strong as an ox, great in the air, powerful and had a lick of pace. His no nonsense tackles which left their mark on the opposition player without being dirty were awesome. All of that said, Ledley was faster, more agile, much much better on the ball, a great passer long and short, a good dribbler and read the game superbly. He very rarely needed to go to ground but when he did it was perfectly timed. I think he went his entire career without a sending off and very few yellows, I don't think he ever had any suspension in fact. He was also very good in the air. Ledley was the defender everybody wished Rio Ferdinand was, and had his knees been up to task he'd have gone down as the greatest defender since Bobby Moore. For me, he does anyway.

I just wouldn't even be drawn on it tbh it's boring, they are only trying to wind you up and if you rise to it they win.

Couldn't find the quotes just then but remember Fabio Capello saying what Ledley King was the best defender he had ever coached. When you think that he has worked with the likes of Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, Hierro, Ferdinand, Terry, Desailly, Berasi and Roberto Carlos (just off the top of my head) I don't think anything else needs to be said.

King in every aspect except aggression. Campbell was a pure defender who could dominate opponents physically with his pace, strength and aggression.

King was an artisan, a master of his craft. But he was vulnerable to small nippy players because he didn't use his physical attributes to bully them. Campbell dealt with those kinds of players a bit better imo.

Apart from his injuries, king never got to play in teams anywhere near as good as Campbell did so it is a difficult comparison to make. In a great team, king would have looked imperious

I think all bias aside it's very difficult to choose

King was the more gifted I believe

Sol had the better career due to King's injuries (and moving to a more successful club where he won silverware)

I don't think there's much between them, they were both excellent defenders. I think had injury not played a role in King's career he'd have become one of the all time greats.....however he'd have done so at another club, so in that respect I'm glad he had the career he had and was a fantastic one club man and captain for us

One thing that can be said is while both coming through the Spurs ranks one will be remember as a legend forever at the club and the other a judas to rival Mo Johnson
