Pace positioning everything. And THAT tackle v the Arse. Was it Van P or Bergkamp. I forget but just show them that and say fuck all.

Edit: It was v Robben against the other scum. Also google how many top players said he was the best. And he was fair. Bet he had much less yellows/reds. Goes back to reading the game & timing.
Did he ever even have a red? Don't think so

King, I'd say he was one of the best of his generation, it's just a shame his body failed him, at least it wasn't his mind failing him like Campbell.

Easy.

Ledley had to play with hardly any cartilage in his knees, without being able to train, and was still ten times the defender fathead judas ever was on his best day.

Ledley was so spurs he took 'never red' as far as the ref ;)

King by name for a reason. Those arsenal fans, don't waste your burgers and sausages on them, just open a tin of soup instead - Campbells of course.

I think in football terms RSol, Terry, Vidic & probably Stam were the best defenders of that type but King & Rio Ferdinand are a level above because they were just as good at defending but also had great footballing minds & were players you could trust with a ball at there feet & in front of your keeper

If you made a composite footballer out of the best features of each player both mental and physical you would end up with Ledley + Sol's knees.

Campbell was an immense physical presence but King was more intelligent and read the game better.

Every time he went to the gents toilet he'd be unable to stop himself from kneeling down.

King was technically the better defender, without question. But one could claim Sol had the better career.

I mean, if you were to say, without biases and personalities weighed, 'ok, you can have one of these entire careers at your club', and the choices were between the total outlay of each for what were the durations of their relative careers, you might take Sol Campbell's career at your club over Ledley's brilliant but injury-riddled time, don't you think?

i'm not talking about trophies, mind, I just think it can be argued that Campbell did more for his squads than Ledley did - based, obviously, on quantities as opposed to quality. that, as I see it, is the only rational way that they could argue Campbell over King ... a better career, but never a better player.

King. That is all.

Although if we could go back in time and someone stop Campbell from turning into a massive **** the two of the, together got us would have been a truly beautiful thing...

Campbell was a top class stopper, King was a top class sweeper so not really comparable as just defenders.

But, King was a better footballer and without the injuries could have played for a Barcelona or a Real Madrid whereas Campbell's footballing limitations wouldn't have seen him anywhere near their teams and restricted him to Premiership football.

As a result it's King for me.

Bias aside I honestly rate King as the best English defender of the last couple of decades, above Terry, Ferdinand, the lot. Had he been able to stay fit and had he played out the best years of his career at a United or Chelsea then I suspect he'd be regarded in that way far and wide.

Woodgate is another who will never be fully recognised for how good he actually was thanks to the destruction wreaked upon his career by injuries. At his best I'd put him in my top 5 of the last 20 years, ahead of Carragher and alongside King, Ferdinand, Campbell and Terry.

Bias aside as Spurs fans we had both, both were good. king however was a better footballer and more intelligent, admittley Campbell was more useful on the count he wasn't always injured, but on ability King is a clear winner.

Put it this way if King was not injury prone he would have been playing as Man United or Real Madrids top defender

Agree

Terry is 34-35 and probably the best defender in the world right now, King was a class above him so would easily be the best but for injuries

Was talking to a gooner once about football and he mentioned woodgate was really unfortunate with injuries and would have been and even better defender than he was if not for the injuries and I said the same goes for king. He looked at me as though I just told him me and my friends just gangbanged his mum, he completely disagreed with me and said king was shit. Wanker.

King over Judas every single day of the week.

Any Arse fan that ever doubts the quality of King need only be directed to Henry's comments regarding him. I'd like to see them try explain those away.
