It's just become a kind of tradition. I know there's people that wait on match day ratings thread for my posts to see how creative I've been in my musings on Lamela. I honestly feel like a big part of their life would be missing if my posts on here stopped - they never stop tagging me in. It could be argued I try find ways to give sly digs to Lamela at every opportunity, which is unfair I think, but I do always give my honest opinion and write facts only, and feel I'm a necessary anti-dote to some posters who do go overboard on everything he does, while the contributions of other players get routinely overlooked.

Lamela for me dragged the whole team back up with pure refusal to be over run when utd were on top
Rose was very good as well Toby and Eriksen were also great
Actually feck it they were pretty much all great :D
Wish he didn't get injured for the bindippers.

I was slagging Lamela off until this season. He's taken his finger out of his arse and puts in a mountain load of work. This combined with his undoubted ability is simply fantastic. I guess that warning he got from MoPo at the start of the season worked.

It's amazing we beat United for the first time in over a decade, 3-0 and people are arguing, glad the Internet forum was not about in the 90s

For what it's worth I thought Eriksen was fantastic, Toby and Rose excellent, Dier and Dembele in beast mode and Lamela MOTM. Personally I thought Alli was hit and miss and really needs to work on his first touch. Love the kid but has to keep working and developing, which is to be expected.

Overall, we dominated after the first 15-20 mins against Man Utd when the pressure was on and that shows character and promise.

This is all in your own head.

Most of your posts regarding Lamela come across as provocative driven and attention seeking, that's the way I interpret them lol.

"Lads, it's United."

The first 70 minutes of that match were tight, combative, even-handed football, with the defences generally neutralising the attacks and the ball changing hands too frequently for either side to build up any meaningful pressure or superiority.

Then we scored one goal and United collapsed mentally. Until Alli scored, every attack we tried to mount was disrupted (too often because Smalling had a handful of Kane's shirt), blocked and blunted, largely through the nous and canniness of Carrick and Schneiderlin.

What was shocking to me was that, from the moment they went behind, the United players lost a step, their heads dropped and, every time we attacked, suddenly we had all the space in the world to craft moves and find teammates. Certainly, we finished well and constructed some fine attacks, but that was partly because United stopped matching us in fighting for the win.

I suppose one could blame Fosu-Mensah's injury or our superior fitness or Pochettino's ability to create a culture of ruthlessness and teamwork, but really, I thought I could hear Alex Ferguson sobbing somewhere in the distance, because the main reason we scored 3 goals in 6 minutes (and could have had 5 by full time) was because United were mentally weak. Just the way we used to be. They don't have a team ethic, they don't gel or mesh, players are confused about their roles (Young as lone striker??) and there's no sense that conceding a goal is a challenge to be met; instead, it just exposes their lack of ideas.

For the first quarter of the match, every one of our attacking and midfield players was incredibly sloppy in possession. Man Utd were pressing and closing down and we weren't really focused at all. They easily had the better of the first half in terms of the balance of play, but when we got to half time, we had created 4 clear chances and they had created fuck-all.

Then we came out and started knocking at the door, but by 65 minutes, it was looking grimly like a goalless draw or a smash-and-grab in the making. Until we played one inspired move and they fell apart.

Lloris 6.5 - One important save, the usual inconsistent distribution.

Walker 7 - Strong, organised and quick. Good game.

Alderweireld 8 - Totally unflappable, with uncanny anticipation and fine technique; an extra point for the brilliant header.

Vertonghen 7 - As if he hadn't been away.

Rose 8 - Nearly MotM; ran at Man Utd's right side all game and forced Fosu-Mensah to play impressively beyond his years; always available in defence when needed.

Dier 7 - Being careful not to be booked; a weak first half, then increasingly influential after half time.

Dembélé 8 - Also nearly MotM and the only one of our players who was effective throughout the match, including during United's early pressure.

Alli 7 - Despite being semi-involved and out of sorts in the first half, Alli yet again came up with the key moment. He's nearly 20, so you have to expect him not to know every answer to every situation and to be out-witted sometimes by more seasoned players, but the young man's gift for the crucial contribution is quite freakish.

Eriksen 8 - Another nearly-MotM; a fantastic second half from Eriksen, adding precision to our power-and-fitness game.

Lamela 8.5 - My choice for MotM, for his relentless closing down (9 tackles!), canny runs (and one dreadful miss) and involvement in all three goals: winning the ball, then the perfect free kick, then the clean finish.

Kane 7 - An absolute workhorse of a display; involved in everything, without actually getting any statistical reward.

Son 6 - Caused sufficient nuisance in a short time.

Chadli 6 - Ditto.

Mason 6.5 - Normally I would say "NET", but he actually contributed some canny and positive passes in his brief appearance.

I thought first half UTD done well to crowd out central midfield & make it really hard for us.. we needed more in 2nd half from wide areas.. Danny duly stepped up & had a great second.. finally we are seeing better crosses from him.. if he keeps working to improve as he has done.. I will be won over .. first half of season I thought he was average.. the last 3 months he has stopped flying into tackles & has been lively to get himself back into position when we lose the ball.. his crossing has room for improvement but it has really improved in the second half of this season.. I have been critical of Danny in the past however I will always give credit when it's earned.

A hard choice for MOM as there was a lot of contenders.. I gave it to Jan.. probably other choices deserved it but I gave it to him for his performance after been so long out.. & I couldn't decide between other contenders.. a tough game today & no one let the side down

MOTM clearly Danny Rose. He was relentless down the left flank. Honourable mentions to Dembele and Eriksen who ran the game between them through the centre. Lamela wasn't bad, but not up with those three.

Lloris didn't have much to do but made a wonderful save at 0-0 to stop Utd taking the lead against the run of play.

Walker I felt was a little below par. Not bad, but a few dopey moments. Handled himself well when Depay got his handbag out.

Alderweireld was actually a little less than his usual imperious self. Solid on the whole (barring one moment when Mata outmuscled him of all things) but his passing was a little off today.

Vertonghen looked as if he'd never been gone and played some beautiful passes into the midfield. I felt his inclusion was harsh on Wimmer but he did play well.

Rose was a beast, I genuinely don't know if there's a let back anywhere I'd prefer. Certainly would not trade him for any in this league that's for sure. I used to hate the fucker.

Dier was very strong when he needed to be in that poor first 15 minutes and was otherwise his usual solid and dependable self. Truth be told I barely noticed him in the second half due to our dominance.

Dembele was my man of the match, I thought he was great throughout, brought the ball upfield beautifully with his strength and technique and was unlucky not to score. He swatted away opposition players like flies.

Lamela scored a lovely goal and off the ball was superb all game, but I actually think he was poor on the ball in the first half. His hesitancy on the ball let him down, with his beautiful finish coming when he had no time to be hesitant. Lovely cross for the second goal and a very determined performance but not the masterclass some are claiming.

Alli was poor today, but he has been off form for a while. Thing is, he is still producing and that's the sign of a great player. Lampard didn't have to dominate a game to make the difference, neither does Alli, and he scored a lovely goal at the end of a lovely move, making the difficult look easy by timing his run to perfection.

Eriksen was superb in my opinion and a huge reason why we put on such a great show in the second half. His intelligence and ability to find the right pass at any given point was essential and the catalyst for our great combination play. He made all those around him look better and that's the mark of a great number 10.

Kane was unlucky not to score with his header, showed imagination in trying to work chances for himself in a game where he wasn't presented with any, and held up the ball well throughout. Sumptuous pass in the build up to our first goal too.

I came away from this game very happy. By kick off I was dejected about the Leicester result and frustrated by the half hour delay, and it seemed as though the team mirrored that in the first 15 minutes with an inability to get on the ball and retain any kind of possession. We rode it out, absorbed that pressure and grew into the half, getting to the break unlucky not to be leading. Second half was just a masterclass and in the end 3-0 flattered Manchester Utd. That we didn't even make a substitution until the last ten minutes is testament to how dominant we were. Even if we don't win the league, a game like today shows how much we have to be proud of this season.

I'm kinda head-scratching when I read a lot of these, especially the Lamela eulogies. But once again, you seem to read the game exactly same way as me, BBLG.

Very proud of my team today. Shows how far we've come. We won't win the thing this year, but we clearly deserve top 2.

We won it on the flanks - I think Rose was the most influential.

Lamela for me, pushed very hard by Dembele and Danny Rose. All 3 work their nadgers off and refuse to be beaten. The whole team were terrific. Eriksen with a few moments of sheer delight. Alli breaking the deadlock with a typical run and finish. Toby as cool as a cucumber. what a team we have here.

Lloris......7......Only one shot on target to deal with but it was at a key time in the match and he stood up well and made Martial think that extra second which enabled him to produce a solid save that was key to our victory
Walker....8....Up and down the pitch all day. Excellent pass cross field in the lead up to Lamela's strike
Toby........8......He was, as always, a rock. Faultless defensively and scored a fantastic header at a key time to kill off Utd
Verts.......8.... Wimmer has been great back up but Verts is a level above and he played that way today. Great to have him back for the run in
Rose.......8......Outstanding, like Walker he was tirelessly up and down the pitch all game and his delivery for Lamela's goal was perfect.
Dembele. 8... Such a classy player. Went full beast mode and bossed Utd today. If only he scored when put through - he fully deserved the goal to cap such a top class display.
Dier.........7....Didn't really stand out and let players drift off him a few times but he was solid and tidy and played his role both on and off the ball
Eriksen....8....Much of what we did well went through him. He was so creative, he doesn't always work as hard defensively as his peers and for that I often see fans slating him but he is the quality we need to unlock defences and he is one of if not our best player
Lamela....8......I thought he was outstanding. Worked so hard and never gave Utd a second on the ball. His stats must be impressive. His goal was well taken and well deserved and we will say no more about that Darren Bent header
Alli...........7......A quiet game for the most part I felt, struggled to really influence the play but as with all truly class players the boy stepped up and broke the deadlock with his first real opportunity to do so. He's a game changer, he's a match winner and he is a top top talent
Kane.......7.......I felt he deserved a goal for all his hard work today, he was left to play the work horse role due to the way Utd set up and how physical they were, He held the ball up well and was a great focal point for our attack. Not a headline stealing performance but a great team orientated performance and one that was central to victory regardless of him failing to bulge the net

I awarded the MOTM to Lamela but really anyone of a handful of players were equally deserving. I wouldn't argue with anyone who voted for Toby, Rose, Erkisen or Dembele on the day

As a team we were outstanding. We coped with a hard working Utd team well and over powered and out classed them over the 90 mins. It's no exaggeration to say that at the final whistle I was disappointed not to have won by 4 or 5 and I think that in itself says everything needed to be said

Kinda head-scratching at how you could be scratching your head. He was the best player on the pitch, in a game in which we battered United 3-0. Unbiased people are going to praise him.
