Heres an interesting statistic: we haven't lost a single league match this season when Lamela and Dembele have both started. These two have unique skill sets that just aren't duplicated by others in the squad, so when one of them misses out, it seems to correspond with a drop in collective performance and points earned.

Always knew Lamela had the talent when he came to us, it was all about having the right mindset and passion. You can see how much he cares, the way he tracks back non stop and the way he tackles. We have to appreciate the effort and the skill Lamela portrays. He will only improve.

Thought Son actually looked good when he came on, looked sharp and dribbled past players a few times in that short period of time. I thought he could of played the ball near the end and put us on the attack but I guess he just wanted preserve position. Good cameo imo.

Our CB pairing is amazing, well done to the whole team, bar a Martial shot they barely got near our box.

That was like old Utd/Spurs in reverse. Start well, don't take game's best chance up to that point, then concede and collapse, ending up far inferior. Lovely to be on other side of it, long time coming

Have to give it to Erik Lamela over Broadway Danny Rose but a fantastic team performance all round. These two don't give a shit about reputations - they just kept at it. Never let their heads drop and the energy level is a sight to see! Good to see Jan back. Special mentions to Toby and the Moose.

Lets be totally honest. For 70 minutes that was a pretty messy pile of wank. I was at he game and the levels of frustration amongst the crowd was palpable. the CB's were OK, Eriksen saw more ball than anyone in the team, played a marvellous ball that Lamela should have scored from and effectively won the game with that brilliant pass for Alli's goal, Rose was putting a shift in, but for 70 minutes it was hard to say anyone was playing "well".

During that first 70 minutes, Dier looked the most like a CB playing as a CM, probably since the opening day of the season. Dembele did the odd good thing but was also fucking around, over running or running into traffic and turning over the ball, Alli's seemed unable to control anything, Lamela was inspirational without the ball (9 fucking tackles for an AM - for anyone - is outstanding) but with the ball was hapless, Kane kept turning into players and Walker was like a turtle in a fucking windsock.

ManU were by far the better side for the first 25 minutes, looked sharper, slicker and more purposeful. We then got into the game and probably edged the next 20 minutes, and were unlucky not to score as Lamela wasted a wonderful pass from Eriksen.

The first 25 minutes of the second half were pretty atrocious from both teams, both had the odd moment, but by and large it looked like two teams high on endeavour, low on ideas and composure.

None of us really saw what was coming. Within 6 minutes we'd routed them good and proper, three finishes of the highest order, and really could have had a couple more. They just collapsed and we visibly grew in confidence and just cruised the last fifteen minutes.

It was typically Lamela hustling to win a ball that began the first, Kane helped and fed Eriksen who, with the games most sublime moment, fed a delicious ball into Alli to ram home.

That signalled a cavalry charge to the end of the game where we just went at them relentlessly and tore them apart. Great ball in by Lamela was finished well by Alderweireld, and then a a firm cross pass from he industrious Rose was clipped crisply, first time by Lamela into the bottom corner - a goal his industry deserved.

I was there the last time we beat Utd. I've waited a long time to see it again. So had most of those around me. That last 20 minutes was a feeding frenzy, each goal celebrated more vehemently than last, the atmosphere turned from edgy frustration to carnivorous carnival as the carcass of an old and bitter foe was devoured. Songs were ringing out from every corner of the ground. We all walked out with the satisfied grins of those who had feasted after a long famine.

But for 70 minutes it was pretty much a beggars banquet.

Individual stuff

Lloris - Not much to do really.

Walker - Back to his slapstick worst today mostly.

Aldereireld - OK, pretty solid, took his goal well.

Vertonghen - Like he'd never been away.

Rose - Industrious. Good ball for the third.

Dier - Very ploddy and really struggled to cope with ManU's vigour for long spells. Pretty poor game for much of it.

Dembele - Some good stuff, the odd moment of composed clarity amidst the maelstrom, but some dithering and twisting and turning into traffic too, he also mis-controlled horribly when clean through. he too struggled to cope with the frenetic nature if the game for certain spells, I don't think he was great today overall, but had good moments and finished the game strongly.

Lamela - Top marks for what he did without the ball, but superb finish and nice free kick in for the second aside he was pretty poor with the ball for much of that game.

Alli - Another pretty poor game with the ball, not even that great without the ball, but pops up in the right place with that vital first goal.

Eriksen - Some frustrating moments as he too struggled to cope with the intense physicality of this tussle at times, but overall he has to be MOTM. Saw more ball than all of the CM/AM/Forward's, set up that all important first goal that opened the floodgates with an inch perfect ball that was difficult to execute and should have already had an assist for the game's other best pass to Lamela.

Kane - Not his best game, frequently trying to dribble where there was no space to dribble, but as ever, he worked for the team.

It's just become a kind of tradition. I know there's people that wait on match day ratings thread for my posts to see how creative I've been in my musings on Lamela. I honestly feel like a big part of their life would be missing if my posts on here stopped - they never stop tagging me in. It could be argued I try find ways to give sly digs to Lamela at every opportunity, which is unfair I think, but I do always give my honest opinion and write facts only, and feel I'm a necessary anti-dote to some posters who do go overboard on everything he does, while the contributions of other players get routinely overlooked.

I don't think the WTF or d'oh rating does this post justice, however a 'boring' one would do nicely :D

Yup he was excellent today.

Missed a sitter and was struggling to get into the game but almost through sheer force of will played a pivotal role.

Has become the player I didn't think he was going to after two seasons.
The good thing is.. we are only seen 50% of his ability so far.. The next couple of seasons I hope everyone get to enjoy the rm he had in Argentina & Italy with us

This is all in your own head.

Most of your posts regarding Lamela come across as provocative driven and attention seeking, that's the way I interpret them lol.

All the great writers are divisive :)

The irony is that I'm probably one of the few who actually give Lamela credit for working hard and improving his game - Sherwood picked up on that on MOTD. Poch's thoughts would actually mirror mine - he needed to work very hard on improving aspects of his game - and continues to - and if he'd have been told for the last 2 years he was MOTM every game and was doing everything right, he wouldn't have improved at all and would be in Marseille now.

A good case in point was his goal. He's messed up similar shots a few times this seasons when left wing crosses have been played into him. In each case it was poor technique and body position that caused him top mis-hit it (Man City at home, Leicester at home, twice, Watford away are ones I can remember off the top of my head, though I know actually naming them that won't save me from Spam ratings from the usual suspects.) But Poch identified that and he's clearly been practising it, as he showed flawless technique today. Did everything right, even hitting it back from where it came.

He's adding a bit more whip to his dead balls, which helped with his assist. His crossing still isn't good enough though, I thought he did a peach of one for Kane's offside chance, but it was a deflection that put the spin on the ball on second viewing.

And he has to use the ball better and give it away less. Twice in a minute he won the ball, only to give it away each time, the last with a poorly hit crossfield ball that went straight out of play.

Worth noting our chances of top 4 last season were all but lost when Utd battered us 3-0 at Old Trafford. How kind of us to return the favour a year on.

on honeymoon in Peru. Finished the 4 day Inca Trail yesterday and flew to a beach resort in the north of the county this morning. Did everything to avoid the score... mrs, on queue, fell asleep when we checked in to the hotel and i downloaded and watched the whole game -

They came at us strong in the first 20 -30 mins but it almost looked like we purposely sat back and waited to press till after they had tired themselves out

Never felt threatened by them and i couldnt be more proud.

Eriksen MOTM for me, Barely put a foot wrong and was everywhere, always.

Mousa Dembele is the best midfielder in the league by a mile

We can mix and match Walker, Trippier, Rose and Davies and any of the forward three, and not lose too much shape. But when Dembele does not play we have that glue that holds our three lines together missing.

If it were not for Toby i would vote Dembele player of the season, and think he fucking deserves a lot more credit than he is given. He bossed that midfield today and made Mata and his entourage look fucking pedestrian for long periods.

You know after we looked like complete garbage the first 15' and we finally had a bit of a spell where we played well? We had 3 chances in that short little 5' spell. Lamela created 2 of them with really nice crosses(albeit Kane being ruled offside on 1 of them) and had a bad miss on the 3rd chances. Also, I thought he was clearly our best player in the first half to be honest.

I thought Toby, Rose, Dembele, Lamela and Eriksen were our best, with Rose MotM. That second half was great to watch after a pretty poor first half.

Kyle Walker is the best......

Only kidding.

Between Lamela and Eriksen for me, Eriksen edges it, but both were great. Special mention for Rose and also Vertonghen looking like he is never been gone.

The first hour was an arm wrestle.....United pinned us back early on and it took a while for us to gain controlled possession. To me, to improve United just need a combative captain/leader type to be a good side. If they had had a Demeble centrally... this game would have been significantly different.
For us, even when the game seemed a stalemate Rose, Lamela,Toby and Demeble were winning the crucial balls to keep us in it....Alli and Kane had a first hour where they were on the periphery. That our goals came in such a rush just goes to show how far we have come....we fear no one. This is a big statement which will set us up going forward from here.
