Further evidence against even less quality opposition of our need to offload Sissoko and Llorente as soon as we can and replace with players who we can actually rely on to perform when first teamers don't play. I don't care if others were worse today, those are two of our highest paid subs and what they show over and over simply isn't close to being good enough for a top 4 squad.

No idea how people think KWP was poor made 2 mistakes which only cost us throw ins. Apart from that was fine. Actually feel sorry for him that he is constantly played on the wrong side.
He played poorly today. As you said, its not his best side, and I think he could give Trippier a real challenge if given the opportunity on the right. But, he looked too tentative out there at times - needed to take the game to Newport.

He was far from the only player who lacked aggression and determination but he has had better matches for Spurs.

Pitch really showed up the fact that we take far too long in possession to do anything productive with the ball.

This was highlighted by, Dembele, Wanyama, Sissoko, Kane and Llorente.

Trippier showed first time passing has it's pace on any pitch. But fucked up for their goal mistiming his attempted header.

Son changed the game, got the ball under control quickly and attacked them straight away.

Wasn't the right game for a Dembele, Wanyama, Sissoko, Llorente and Kane spine. (Although I don't think such a game exists) they all took four or five touches to control the ball. And moved broke down time and again due to it.

just mind bogglingly awful - I wouldnt have thought it possible.

Vorm - fucking 10 for being the only guy who really did his job. ok, 7

KWP - 5.5 got exposed repeatedly in the first half. decent enough attacking but defense was poor

Verts - 6 shaky first 20 minutes but then ok

Foyth - 4 pretty panicky performance

Trippier - 6 decent but found wanting on their goal

Dier - 6 kinda like Verts

Wanyama - 3 he must have had some touches in the first half but I heard his name called once

Sissoko - was a goddam 7. His less than average play was one of the bright spots in our dire performance

Dembele - 6 same problem as always, he cant pick the lock in the final third

Llorente - 2 Im not sure he contributed anything

Kane - 5 and only because of the goal

TBH, Im not exactly sure how we set up to start the game but its disappointing that Wanyama, Dembele, Dier and Sissoko didnt have enough guile to break down a 4th tier team.

Vorm - 7 Didn't have much to do, few good saves though.

Dier - Sissoko

Vertonghen - 6 Not as good as he has been over the season, wouldn't surprise me if he is feeling burned out.

Foyth - 4 Don't want to be harsh on the lad, had barely even played for us and that was a tough pitch to play on

Trippier - 5 Average, few good crosses, nothing spectacular.

Wanyama - Sissoko

Dembele - Sissoko

KWP - 4 Same as Foyth

Sissoko - 10 He is the only player who gives or provides balance in those transitions - offensive to defensive, defensive to offensive - in the team, there is literally no other player in the team who can provide that.

Llorente - Sissoko

Kane - 8 Average for him but did get the goal, plus he is digging us out on a weekly basis now, we would be fucked without him quite frankly.

Son - 9 MOTM, came on, made things happen got the assist and should have started the game quite frankly, criminally underrated player.

Dele - 8 Like Son, came on made things happen, push us higher up the pitch, common sense would dictate he would be perfect to start a game like this considering he has played in the lower leagues...

Davies - Net.

Poch - 3 Saved himself with the halftime sub of Son, should have started him, think the criticisms towards him are fair at the moment, not the first time this season he has had a shocker and it won't be the last, thank god we have Sissoko that's all I am saying.

MotM Newport County FC for playing out of their lives, in conditions most of our players haven't played in since they turned professional.

they deserved at least a draw on their 1st half performance

Awful (and almost unthinkable) result. Awful individual performances. Awful as a collective performance. Awful tactics and selections. I thought last week was bad, this was even worse!

Even scraping a draw is embarrassing, and especially when we have to rely on Kane (who should really have his feet up at home right now) to bail us out against a League Two team.

Lets start with selection. The other week we had a lot of posters berating West Ham for going into a game with a back five and three defensive minded midfielders. They were labelled small time, anti football etc etc. At least they had the excuse of playing against one of the top teams (don't laugh....) in the country. We've just done it against a League Two team, anyone got any comments........?

First half was a horror show. We were being pinned back by a League Two side and resorted to largely hoofing it forward to two isolated strikers. The second half we at least got the ball down and got up the pitch as Newport retreated as they tried to cling on to the result, but, and even in bad conditions,it was so clumsy, error-strewn and lacking in quality its hard to say it was an improvement.

I don't see what's being achieved by the continuous selection of the turgid trio that is Sissoko, Dembele and Dier/Wanyama in the middle of the park. It's not the sole issue but it's fucking overkill and provides very little footballing nous and ability to move the ball about the pitch. Then it gets persisted with virtually all game, I struggle to see what Poch is watching. It definitely needs addressing ASAP - whether by giving a shot to our own players coming off the production line or buying one or two players.

Individually very little to compliment. Vorm, second week in a row, dealt with one or two tricky moments competently. Foyth had a much stronger second half. Apart from that..... Trippier had a shocker all game, Dier just didn't ever look a commanding presence, Vertonghen got rattled by the fucking floodlights and spent large parts of the game wildly waving his boot at the ball, KWP had some iffy moments and was then the sacrificial lamb, Wanyama was awful, Dembele spent the first hour shirking any challenge, and offered fuck all with the ball, Sissoko was Sissoko, Kane tapped one in and had a few moments when we were huffing and puffing but you mostly couldn't tell the difference between him and his strike partner, and Llorente looks completely done in terms of confidence, legs, and desire.

We'll most probably get the job done in the replay, but that doesn't excuse what happened in this game and that if we want to get to the top we need to set higher standards and this isn't acceptable. We also shouldn't ignore the warning signs about where we are weak and where Poch needs to figure some things out.

Vorm - Solid when needed.

Trippier - Awful game and looked like he completely bottled that header for the Newport goal.

Foyth - Little shaky in the first half, thought he was much more assured and assertive in the second.

Dier - Bit weak.

Vertonghen - Seemed quite rattled first half, a little better in the second.

KWP - Had a few iffy moments but, as I said in the match thread, I thought it was a pretty cowardly and ultra-safe decision by Poch to take him off (presuming there was no injury) - we're losing, so the rookie has to go. That would have been a valuable 90 mins for him, the whole experience and to get through the ups and downs of the game (whatever the ultimate result), instead he gets the hook. You cant tell me it was more beneficial to keep the senior players out there, several who showed little fight or desire, and played worse than him. He wasn't even the worst full back out there for us in my opinion. But I mustn't question Poch...

Sissoko - I could, but what's the fucking point.

Wanyama - After an awful cameo last weekend, he follows it up tonight with 90 awful mins. The only explanation I can offer for him not getting subbed off is that they thought it beneficial for him to get a full game under his belt. Hope it pays off...

Dembele - No better than the other two. Needs to buck his ideas up.

Llorente - Very worrying that he seems to lack the appetite. However he was subbed at the point that a) in the last few mins he'd started finding the ball into feet and linking up with players, and b) we were 1-0 down to a League Two team and still had fucking three defensive midfielders on the pitch. May as well have left him on, however bad.

Kane - Pretty weak effort in all truth for the most part, but yet again he saves us.

Subs:
Son - Pretty erratic but was at least lively.
Alli - A couple of involvements but little to show for it. Thought he mucked up the pass for the Son chance.
Davies - Well, he came on....

I wish I could agree. They certainly deserve credit but its not like they rose to our level. We were awful. It was like watching me play golf- no telling where the ball is going.

Wasn’t without a few missteps but that understandable considering the amount of first team action he gets. Foyth is my man of the match.

All I know is if we don't sign a central midfield player we are in enormous trouble.

Sissoko looked out of his depth technically, him and trippier was a laughably weak right hand side.

that had nothing to do with who played, we didn't cope with the conditions as well as Newport did. as i said in my previous post, most of our players wouldn't of played on a surface as bad as that since they before they become professional.

even if your a superstar on a mill a week, your never know how that bobble will change the way the ball arrives.

we struggled with everything, the pitch, the wind, and their long throws, which lead to their opening goal, and it was a very good delivery, and a well meet header.

My vote goes to Son. Weird team selection of a side with only Kane as an attacking player. The rest were defensive minded or just safe types not likely to make anything happen. All so different when Son then Dele came on and Harry had someone to play football with.

Poch - 1. Saved himself another zero with the half time sub bringing in Son.

Everyones praising Foyth but i personally thought he was poor tonight. Was clearly rattled and never really got over it. Made aton of mistakes. Good news is there all easily correctible. He has good potential and will get better. But it was not his game tonight at all.

Not trying to pull you up particularly @yankspurs, there’s plenty others doing the same, but I’m not sure how anyone could have rated llorente higher than Sissoko tonight? Sissoko linked with Kane better than llorente did

The most concerning thing for me is that we played, Jan, Dembele, Sissokko, wanyama, Llorente, Kane and Dier, and we hardly won a contested header and were bullied all over the park.

Turgid performance and that's generous.
More candidates for Worst MOM than for the best.
OK Mr.P you've proved your point
we need more scalpel and less sledgehammer.
OK..............Vorm, Foyth, Son, Dele
Poor............Vertonghen, Sissoko, KWP, Kane
Dreadful......Wanyama, Dembele, Dier, Trippier
In a class of his own....Llorente

Terrible pitch, in Wales, but we were pathetic.
Of course we'll beat them at Wembley.
Won't we?

Trippier - at fault for the goal, never a factor on the wing

the only thing to blame him for on their goal is he was 2ft too short

FFS give Newport some credit for a well worked goal, and a great cross for a striker to be able to attack, and harder for a defender to climb

I'm furious that he isn't staying behind after training to work on improving his height!

(I actually do think he was at fault for the goal though, because he jumped too early and also wasn't tight on his man.)
