Seeing as you ducked out of the debate on the Chelsea thread, you don't really deserve an answer, BC.

The trouble with Lamela yesterday was that he was bringing nothing to the party. In fact, he was a liability, as evidenced by the ridiculous free kick he conceded on our "D". When shit's not working, you shake it up a bit. At the moment, Lamela is delivering so little that I would consider Lennon to carry an equal (if not greater threat).

Lennon has never kicked on but at least he puts that doubt into a defender's mind. He can cut inside or he can go round the outside. With Lamela, you know which way he's going to go.

Lennon would have offered Dier better protection (fuck knows he needed it badly) and perhaps made Palace more reluctant to bomb forward on our right side.
Agree with this. I thought it was a real blow when I saw the team. He works hard off the ball these days and his very presence affects the mindset of the opposition - and their defensive shape. And like you point out, Dier needed proper protection and Lennon's defensive contribution is much more diligent than Lamela's.

Yes, Pinkerton. It's psychology, innit?

Definitely plays a huge part. If your part of the opposition defense, particularly the LB, you're constantly aware of the threat of his pace. Affects judgement calls, how the LB and LCB defend in tandem. Pace gets defences panicking, its that simple for me.

I watched the Palace/Liverpool game the other week and they just couldn't cope with Bolasie. Do I think he's a good footballer? Not overly, but his pace caused them massive problems and that's what won them the game.

Liverpool were deadly last season because of the pace of Sturridge/Sterling and that opened up huge spaces for one of the best footballers in the world in Suarez.

You need pace in your side, and we don't have much of it at present. Only really Lennon, so I'd be playing him all day long until we have a more viable option.

Just on this point, Lennon looked knackered in midweek and didn't really offer great protection for the fullback. The intensity of his pressing and work off the ball was a world away compared to the Everton game. He might have helped out a bit more yesterday, I have a feeling we'd have got more lethargy though from him.

So we ignore the goal Lennon directly cost us against Chelsea with his incompetence ? The fact that he actually goes "outside" about once every six months ? Or the many, many games where Lennon doesn't help his right back ? And most of all, how he's spent half his time hiding from the ball when we really need him to show up ?

For every time Lamela gets caught on there ball, Lennon gives stupid possession away with his "I'm scared someone's up my arse so I'll just carelessly flick it to a pretend team mate that really isn't there" bullshit.

I know Lamela has faults, he needs to learn to release the ball quicker sometimes, he has a stupid hair cut, and he has Jack Nicholson Shining crazy eyes, but people are jumping all over every mistake - even routine mistakes that every player makes - that Lamela is making now like he's unique. Eriksen was worse than Lamela in the first half, unlike Lamela he bottled tackles (as does Lennon) - something Lamela doesn't do.

What I like is that he never fucking hides, if he loses the ball it pisses him off and he tries to get it back, he actually tackles people - unlike just about every other attacker we have, especially Lennon.

Maybe Lennon could have done a more disciplined job of helping Dier, but it would have been Kane or Soldado I would have taken off, not Lamela, as those two were both poor and doing very little, at least Lamela was trying to influence the game.

But that's just it Pinko, he did this a couple eof times when he got a kick up the arse under AVB, but soon lapses back into his half arsed ways, as MP pointed out - he was pretty shit against Chelsea and was rightly hooked.

Wasn't great I know, but I still think we would of been stronger with him in the side than Lamela currently - and I'm one of the ones who's prepared to be patient with the kid.

But he (Lennon) wasn't 100%, otherwise he would of started according to Trix.

Well tell me why Eriksen was better ?
As I said in my match review, he was at the heart of most of our good moves.

EDIT: lest anyone be led astray, Eriksen's stats cover the 90 mins

Lamela 0/0......... crosses....Eriksen 1/4
Lamela 0/3 .........dribbles.... Eriksen 1/2
Lamela 4 ....ball recoveries....Eriksen 3
Lamela.4/4.... tackles....Eriksen 3/5
Lamela 0... attempts on goal...Eriksen 3
Lamela 0...chances created...Eriksen 3

And it's funny how you bowed out of one thread because you allegedly became bored of repeating yourself, only to pipe up on a different thread to...er, repeat yourself.

Is that Eriksen's stats for 90 mins or just the first half?

Lamela 16/21……. passes Eriksen…. 15/22
Lamela 25…... received Eriksen…. 17
Lamela 4…….. ball recoveries Eriksen…. 1
Lamela 0……. chances created Eriksen…. 2
Lamela 0……. attempts Eriksen…. 2

Wait, I thought Lamela played the full 90. Sorry about that, chaps. I should have made myself more clear.

Yes, Lamela won the ball back a lot but when he got it, the troubling matter was that he did the square root of fuck all with it. 0/3 dribbles, 0 attempts, 0 crosses, 0 chances created. 0.
