Well , this won't be popular , but for me this defeat was way better than the low-block no shots on target etc type of defeats we've been getting . There was plenty of fluid football from the likes of TN ,Lucas, Lamela, Sonny and of course Bale played well offensively . Kane not quite at his best unfortunately . We dominated sections of the match, loads of chances and were unfortunate to lose.

But Lordy what is wrong with the defence ? My doubts over Lloris have returned with a vengeance . His non-command of his area is terrifying. Him and Dier are Laurel and Hardy together when the crosses come in, no-one taking charge . Reg seemed a tad over excited...wtf has happened to leading assister ('19-'20) Doherty, who has never found any form with us ? and Sanchez seems to have a bit missing from his game . Even Ledley can't help with it .

Is there a worse centre back pairing in the league?

Bale second half was a bright spot and a bit of hope.

Makes 2 of us. He scored a good goal, but with his feet he's sh*te, he had 2 good chances to score a 2nd, one was a tap in if he'd kept his eye on the ball & the other was a decent opportunity on the edge of the box that he blazed way over the bar, his passing is poor & I'm not sure he makes a chance for others. Runs around a lot though.

Thank heavens it isn't just me! Sure he runs about a lot and occasionally has a good dribble with the ball, but those predominantly end with him on his arse and the ball with the opposition. He runs head down with his eye the ball and seldom looks up to find a team mate. Yesterday even when he did try to find a player, his passing seemed really off to me.

Lloris - 5 - Just does not dominate his area and is too often glued to his line. That first goal he needs to come and take the ball and anything that gets in the way. At one point Sanchez had to concede a corner as Lloris let a throw on bounce into our 6-yard box and was glued to his line. It is ironic as when we signed him he we couldn't keep him in his penalty area and now we cannot get him off his line!
Tanganga - 6 - Tough being a young kid in such a shaky defence
Sanchez - 6 - Played largely as I expected.
Dier - 4 - Not good enough.
Reguilon - 6 - Below his usual standard.
Højbjerg - 5 - Another was below his usual standard and looked off the pace and was sluggish from the first minute. Got better second half.
Ndombele - 6 - Played within himself, especially first half.
Lamela - 6 - One nice run first half, but is too slow to play as a WF.
Moura - 6 - Nice goal, but he is not a #10. We need to get him into 1 on 1's with opponents in the last third, not coming to collect the ball of Højbjerg with his back to goal.
Son - 6 - Didn't really get going today. A couple of nice crosses.
Kane - 6 - Like the majority of the team he didn't seem up for it first half. Second half he looked class.

Doherty - 6 - Got forward well, but his crossing was very poor.
Bale - 8 - He simply has to start as he did more in the first 10 mins he was on than our entire team did first half. Shame we were 2-0 down by then.
Dele - 6 - Too many flicks that did not work, he really needs to cut that out as we need him.

Mourino - 4 - I am just so annoyed that we did not play the way we could, and should, have been playing all season until we were 2-0 down. Too little too late. This was a must win game so I am in favour of sacking him now and getting a decent manager who is not living on past glories in the summer. How the hell can he not get a tune out of Bale, Dele, Kane, Son, Ndombele, Reguilon, Lo Celso, etc. ?

I think this is part of the problem with our defence - Lloris isn't commanding his area/defence anymore - he always used to shout 'get out' etc but he has been very quiet recently.

there have been several goals recently that I feel he has contributed to, by staying on his line, where defenders (Dier) had the chance to clear but were hesitant, maybe expecting Hugo to come and deal with. If they don't get a shout, they should not assume he will, but an 'AWAY!' shout makes it clear, he isn't coming. I also seem to recall a few occasions when he has dived along his line trying to anticipate the shot, instead of cutting out the cross before it gets to the striker.
He is captain and should be organising the defence, so some of the laughable positioning of defenders could be down to him.
Every combination of defence that Jose puts out all look suspect - there is a common denominator - Hugo
