There is no way we were going to go full tilt, pressing like mad, with another game to negotiate before Saturday.

Absolutely ridiculous scheduling and we shouldn't be involved quite frankly.

But there's honestly no point in trying to analyze the performance as this was never going to be foot down on the pedal approach.

At least wait until we've played two or three league games before crying about how nothing looks different.

I watched a lot of Thiago when he first came through at Barcelona, and I have to say that I see a lot of him in Alli. If he turns into half that player, we have a quality midfielder on our hands.

So, pre season kickabout. What would be the Poch pre game team talk?
'Take it at 50% lads'?
'Just do what we've been doing in training'?
Any thoughts?

Loved Alli. Want to know where Townsend was, is he injured? And if Vorm is going to cover for any significant amount of time in Lloris' place, heaven help us all. Oh, and Walker is back to his usual self, incredibly fast and defensively clueless.

So DA seems to be the biggest plus ..... hopefully it will last into the season, we are crying out for a standout player

Well that's a relief.

If we had won, tomorrow's game would have clashed with the Great British Bake Off.

We Have 3-4 weeks left to sort these problems out and then will be the time to moan i feel.

yes but no, we cannot afford to drop too many points before the window closes, and with Poch's fitness based approach we should really be aiming to be quick out of the traps and get some early points on the table while our rivals are still panting for breath. Also late signings are even more of a problem for Poch than for most managers - he is not going to push new signings straight into the first team; he will want to steep them in his patent formula first. So any signings late in the window we probably won't see much of until October at the earliest - and not then if they prove as resistant to his methods as did Stambouli.

Absolutely right. But it does beg the question as to who was responsible for scheduling our participation in this event. I don't like our focus on behind closed door pre season games followed by 2 money makers. It smacks of Levy and not about best preparation for the coming season. Can't believe Poch wanted this a few days before the start of the season. Surely the emphasis of this week was fine tuning plans for the United game.

Laughable people are taking solace from this performance.

Madrid have taken off first teamers and haven't got out of 1st gear in the second half.

2 games in 2 days. Yanited away at 12 o'clock on Saturday. Nobody would get much out of first gear in those circumstances, so you can bet we didn't either.

Maybe we should consider signing some attacking players. Don't think we've signed one since Pochettino joined the club.

It's quite concerning to me too that we look to just buy defender after defender (when a good defence is something you can actually coach), while largely ignoring attacking signings (which is much harder to coach and more reliant on individual match winners).

Still, if we still concede shit loads this season I'm sure we can buy some more defenders in January.

I have to wonder what the thought process was in accepting the invitation to play in this meaningless tournament so close to the start of the season. Surely we can't be that hard up for a few quid?

I can't understand it, honestly. We seem to have a very lax attitude towards the start of the season for some reason. I know we need to wait to get deals done, but the one position we really needed to integrate with a proper pre season, I might add, was a another quality CM. And another option in attack who offers more pace and guile.
