Mauricio Pochettino plans reunion with Rickie Lambert at Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino could be reunited with Rickie Lambert after the Tottenham Hotspur head coach showed interest in signing his former striker.

Lambert scored 19 goals and earned his first England cap while playing under Pochettino for nearly 18 months at Southampton, but his £4 million move to Liverpool last season proved unfruitful. Tottenham are looking for two new strikers and consider that Lambert could be a back-up for Harry Kane.

West Bromwich Albion have held talks with Lambert, who has entered the final year of his contract, worth about £60,000 a week. The striker, 33, has also attracted interest from Leicester City and Crystal Palace. Benfica have had talks about signing Javier Hernández, the Manchester United and Mexico striker, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

Right, I'll take one for the team and represent the "he'd be a good but unfashionable signing" collective

For a decent price, and with Ade and Soldado gone, I would take him. Assuming we get in someone else like Berahino then he would be a good signing. He would allow us to play 4-2-3-1 in the EL and rest Kane - something that is not possible with Soldado. He'd be happy to play second fiddle. For a couple of million. I am all for this.

Quick question- if you had to choose, would you prefer Marcin Wasilewski from Leicester, or Pique from Barcelona?

Perfectly reasonable signing as a third choice striker who won't expect too much playing time. Makes a lot of sense imo....though of course it depends upon what the other incomings might be.

I don't honestly foresee us signing both Werner and Berahino (fantastic if we do though) so if it's a case of one or the other a guy like Lambert coming in to make up the numbers works well I think. If we only sign Lambert then obviously that would suck but I doubt it'd be the case.

Would quite happily take him on loan as a third choice.

Kane, Berahino and Lambert. Good blend there.

I suppose if Ade and Soldado go....and in addition to Berahino, it would be understandable.

It better not be a deadline day special with no other forward coming in.

Underwhelming though. He's knocking on.

33 years old. Very Levy-like type.

Wouldn't be that bad to replace Soldado as injury cover tbh if we got Berahino as well.

Was good under Poch but he's 33 now and his confidence is shot to pieces. Wouldn't offer any more than Soldado does as a 3rd choice striker I think.

33 will be on very decent wages at Liverpool. Nah. Probably better getting in a young guy who could do just good of a job is on low wages and will have decent sell on value if needed. Timo?

If he was prepared to come in the knowledge he will be on the bench then he would be a good option, but why would he swap Liverpool's bench for ours? Surely he will go to a club where he would be a starter
