I don't understand why there's any question about it.

They should be banned for the next two Olympics and also have all their other sportsmen/women tested ASAP.

Cannot believe that they will be having a World Cup in 2 years.
Unfortunately, I can believe they'll be hosting the World Cup soon. Money talks, and FIFA's leading officials, especially its executive committee, are as easy to bribe as you'll find anywhere.

I'm amazed at the sheer audacity of the whole thing. Everyone knows there are athletes that cheat but to do it on such a scale and state sponsored is almost unbelievable. It's almost like the days of the Soviet bloc where it was rife and the female weightlifters looked more like men! They should be banned from this Olympics at the very least. Harsh on the ones that didn't cheat but a very clear message needs to be sent.
They won't send such a message while there's money to be made. Russian athletes, especially track and field, are box office, and that is the consideration that will prevail. The IOC's decision to allow the worldwide governing body for each sport to decide whether or not to allow Russian athletes to go to Rio is cowardly buck-passing, but not even remotely surprising.

I thought the track and field athletes were banned and this is the other sports that they've ducked the decision on. Is that not the case?

That is the case. Track and field athletes are all banned anyway. The McLaren report though, stated there was a doping programme across the "Vast majority" of Olympic sports.

Yeah my understanding is Track and Field are banned. It's now down to the individual sporting bodies to make decisions. I'm guessing there will be a few bans of that sports that weere shown to be abusing testing.

The IOC won't ban Russia from the Olympics but refuse to let the Russian whistleblower compete. A pathetic decision by the IOC that will simply deter future whistleblowers.

The Olympic village was condemned as not safe. Combine this with the IOC bending over backwards for Putin and the Olympics are off to a cracking start.

How shit must the Olympic village be if the Australians, who basically live on Skull Island took one look at it and thought 'oh hell no'

Was playing the London 2012 Xbox game again today- it's so good even now, shame they're not doing one for Rio.

Still off to a cracking start.

The US basketball team is staying on a luxury cruise for the tournament to avoid the hotels.
The Nigerian soccer team kicks off in 36 hours. They are still stuck at the hotel in....Atlanta, Georgia.

The IOC has agreed to add baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sports climbing (had to google it) and surfing to the 2020 Olympics.

Complete & utter farce by the IOC to continue excluding squash.

Women's football kicked it off last night. Some hilarious goalkeeping clangers, as per usual, and a Zimbabwe side that celebrated as if they'd won the damn thing when they scored against Germany and made it 2-1, though they lost 6-1 in the end.

Some women have great tekkers and all, but the goalkeeping always lets it down as a spectacle.

How the hell is squash not an Olympic sport? I don't even play it and that seems daft.
