It depends if he wants a partner for Torres, or someone who can play the same role as him in a 4-2-3-1... It would seem strange that they would change to 442 next season after finding a beautfiul balance with Torres and Gerrard allowed to play off each other. Going to 442 would also bring back the boring "Gerrard on the right" debate as Rafa always wants to holding players: Mascherano and Barry.

The thing is, they would be fucked if Torres got a serious injury. Kuyt would be pathetic as a lone striker.

He certainly wouldn't score as many, but he is quite good at playing upfront by himself with two wingers as he did for Feyenoord for years. He brings others into the game. Its not like Keane would be able to upfront by himself either though...

I would expect Liverpool to go for the cheaper younger option then to go for Keane though. I dont believe we've quoted anything for Keane, despite what the reports suggest. We certainly wouldn't sell for less then £20m, and just as we've done with Berbatov, we will price him above his true value. Would Liverpool be prepared to pay over the odds? I very much doubt it. Same as Man Utd aren't likely to pay over the odds on Berbatov.

Good! It's about time teams stood up the 'big4' if clubs don't keep players like Keane Berba Barry Arteta etc then the top 4 will never be broken.

Well of course they do, so unsettling one of our key players whilst trying simultaneously—very crudely—to ramp up Crouchy's price is a pretty obvious tactic. One thing all the ITKs seem agreed on is that they haven't made any kind of formal offer, and they won't, because they can't afford our likely asking price. It's been said that they still owe Atleti for Torres.

And what we don't know, and I doubt any ITK does, no matter how good his sources, is Keano's response. Flattered? Almost certainly. A little bit tempted? Well, you'd think about it. Who wouldn't? How long and seriously you'd think about it is another matter entirely.

Whether Keane would liked to have gone is irrelevant in my opinion. He's proved that he cares about Spurs over the years and if he is with us come the start of next season, which I think he will, he'll put in the same amount of effort and commitment he always has. You can't blame a player for wanting to go, Liverpool are a big club, big history and Champs League, I don't blame him for thinking, "Yea that wouldn't be too bad". As long as (If this whole situation is genuine and not a snowball taking on a momentum of it's own) he accepts our decision and continues as normal, makes no difference.

Loyalty in football, in this day and age, does not exist, at least for the 99.9999% of footballers. As fans, all we can ask is commitment once a player is on our pitch

loyalty is not just non-existent for footballers - it is non-existent for football in general (ie clubs, coaches, managers, etc). football is big business. loyalty is for amateur football, not professional football.

how many players are sold against their will? it works both ways.

but you are right all we can hope for is a professional attitude whilst they are with us.

I definitely can't see Liverpool paying 20mil for a 28 year old. I believe when Keane heard the news either directly from Liverpool representatives or the papers he would have been very interested. I'm certain he still is. However I feel that if the club refused permission for Keane to talk to Liverpool he wouldn't kick up a fuss which is key

God forbid he does a Barry and go to the press

How many players you know would make a failed transfer request then admit to it openly? How many players have a desire to move to another club and say, wow they are much better club I want to go there! Its not done because they know we would make there lives hell. I am not saying they are lying but most of them are carefully stage managed and to rely on that 100% would be just as fool hardy as relying on ITK.

But Keane didn't make a transfer request. Noodles said so.

This might have been said by Dan or someone already but I've been away the last week and haven't caught up much.

Basically I spoke to my contact and the Scousers haven't come in for Keano, nor anyone else and we won't want to sell anyway so that is the end of the matter as far as we are concerned. He hasn't requested a transfer either.

Probably because there was never anything in it in the first place. I get the impression from Noodles' most recent missive (see Read-Only) that he's shit-stirring.

To be fair to SS57, didn't Dan say that no way did Keane want to go to Liverpool or anywhere else and was as likely to leave as any of our new signings. And wasn't there one or two other ITKs that completely contradicted Noodles et al. Therefore would it not be out of left field to believe the former ITKs rather than those repeating stories from the NoW?

Just why is this discussion still going on? Really is the biggest non story. It will only turn up in the last lines of transfer gossip articles, where they say 'has also been linked with Brian Barwick's moustache and Tottenham's Robbie Keane.'

If Keane is leaving it is purely down to him asking to leave IMO. Ramos is not playing Football Manager here and selling 16 players in one morning..its just not possible in 'real life football'.

Luis Garcia is a Keane type player so we will have to wait and see on that one but Liverpool are struggling to get 15 for the Barry transfer..where is the other 15 coming from for Keane. The Crouch money maybe but Robbie is a YOUNG 20 plus a season player so that starts the bidding at least 15 million.

Part of me thinks Keane and Quinn would be interested but Robbie wants a step up to Champions League so i just dont see it making sense!
