Heard Everton are now favorites to land him... would be crap if we lose a target to them...

frankly... think he chelsea will prefer to see him in Germany..... hopefully Lukaku will want to stay in England.

Hopefully he doesn't want to stay in England if he's going to Everton...

You have to add up all the income from players sales and then subtract all the expenditure from player purchases and from that you'll get the over all P&L from player transfers. For this reason your suspected collusion between PSG and Chelsea couldn't work. Consider:

Chelsea buy player A for £2m, then sell him to PSG for £45m.
PSG buy player B also for £2m and then sell him to Chelsea also for £45m

Chelsea's gross expenditure = £2m spent on player A, plus £45m spent on player B = £47m
Chelsea's gross income = £45m from selling player A to PSG
Chelsea's P&L = -£2m

For PSG it's of course the same...

Therefore buying from each other at artificially inflated prices does nothing to reduce over all P&L and therefore nothing to help with FFP.

The three year time frame may come into play here. The timing of the transfers could be a cause for concern in that it depends what financial periods the transactions are made. To inflate one year and deflate the next. A little in column A then a little in column B..

I can't imagine Everton spending 20+m on one player

A few years back I couldn't imagine us doing the same either. We've done it twice in one window and may end up doing it again this window.

Everton haven't received 90m for one of their players and we were always better off financially.

They (and everyone else) also weren't part of the TV deal until this year, hence everyone's bigger bids. First place team gets the most (£95M), last place team gets the least (£63M) from the TV deal alone.

Really surprised that Everton would be able to do this deal.

Just maybe Barkley is going to be sold and this is financing the deal and they're buying first.

TV deals go up much faster than costs so every team will have more money year to year, Spammers just spent £14m on a striker

Get your point that Everton normally quite weak in the market, but I think Lukaku on a 5 year deal is more of an investment than a big splash

I'm led to believe #THFC matched #EFC's offer to Lukaku but the Belgium international snubbed their offer. Poor summer for Spurs thus far.

Can't comment on the validity of this, but if it is true then it's a shame. I'd understand why he'd want to stay at Everton after having a very good season there and working well with Martinez.

If they land Lukaku they could remain a serious threat.

At this rate we might be struggling for top 6 lol

It's disconcerting that everyone around us seem to be making strong signings.

Liverpool may have lost their big name, but they're making some strong signings and improving their squad depth. Players like Remy and Lallana are an upgrade to the likes of Aspas and Moses. Everton haven't signed him yet, but Lukaku is a step in the right direction, and Martinez is pretty good with his transfers.

We've not done anything yet, but in all honesty I can't see us doing anything significant. With a new manager we're looking to get the best out of the money we spent last year. Even the targets we've had ITK for, the likes of Davies, Schneiderlin and Lovren, are all good players but nothing earth shattering.

It might not be bad thing in a way. Nobody is expecting us to pull up trees next season, and after the last couple of years I think we've gone down in a lot of people's estimation. Perhaps making lower profile signings and having less attention on us will have a positive effect.

Surprised he snubbed us if that's true. I know they have Mirallis but we have a big Belgium contingent here, based in London etc...you would of thought that would of appealed. And the recent Dembele comments etc...

Of course he could really have liked his time at Everton or maybe he thinks he'd be guaranteed a starting spot every week there but fears Ade could be too good to dislodge a lot of weeks here.

Who knows.

Also, seems a little strange to me that we've matched their offer for Lukaku yet pulled out of the race for Bony.

Yeah, unfortunately we've slipped back over the last 2 years, we're pretty much back to where we were under Jol. I guess we just have to get used to missing out to the likes of Everton until we can build ourselves back up a bit. Cant help feeling this is a pretty major blow if it happens, Martinez can really build a team around this guy for the next 3/4 years.
