Poch has sent them out today and said, lads show me what you can do for 45 minutes. Show me some fire. You'd think Lennon would go out and bust a gut to impress the manager. Yet he did nothing, after a season of doing nothing. That's why we're on his back.

What position was Lennon asked to play? 2nd striker? AM?
I'm afraid that he is a specialist - a winger with good defensive attributes.
If he going be productive, he needs to build up an understanding with one of the strikers - Soldado would be nice.

is anyone confident that soldado would've actually finished that chance? at no point did i ever feel he was going to put it away and that's quite worrying.

Lovely bit of skill to get himself in the position and then he is fouled, gets up scores a penalty. Do we have to debate whether he might have put the original chance away?? Pointless imo. If you find that quite worrying, i wouldn't watch anymore football, you'll be topping yerself.

He was a winger. It's been a long time since he went past anyone. Plus he's never been able to cross a ball. That's why he's never been bought by a top 4 club. Had he'd been the finished article we'd have lost him to a bigger side a long time ago as what happens to most of our great players.

Now the fact that he can't go past people or deliver a quality ball I see no reason to keep him just for his defensive qualities.

Did Poch send them out to play one and two touch football and tell them to mainly make forward passes? It was interesting to watch and from the first 10 mins I said to my mate that we looked more like Saints last year than Spurs under AVB or Timmy in what we were trying to do.

I think we gave the ball away so much in part because he wanted to see who can handle that type of football and hopefully after a few more games he'll have a good idea of who needs to go and who he wants to keep. Obviously we're rusty so that would have been a factor but overall it was refreshing to see our players linking up in ways that we've not really seen since BMJ and Redknapp, even if it was only in patches.

If we keep this up we may start to play fast enough that we find it easier to break down the Stoke's and West Hams and actually take points at home from the teams above us, well that's if it all goes to plan. It was encouraging to say the least.

Most encouraging performance I have seen from a new Spurs manager. From my perspective it was a clear 433 with Capoue playing as the pivot.

Capoue seemed to be either lazy or lacking match fitness but he stuck to position and distributed the ball well. He most certainly played his role the way he was asked. I'd assume Holtby was initially meant to play the Carroll role (box to box ball player) until Sigurdsson pulled out and would assume Eriksen will have the advanced attacking CM role in future as he did at Ajax.

Overall you could clearly see the 433 system working, much like Barca/Spain prime and it is the system I had expected AVB to play and personally wanted us to play since Harrys days. It was clear a few couldn't play the style but others seemed to fit in perfectly (Holtby, Capoue, Carroll most notably). It was good to see Dawson not punt it long for once even if he did struggle in doing so (think he needs to be moved on now).

As an added note, anybody who continues to think Holtby is nothing more than a hard worker needs to take a new perspective on football because that guy has serious talent, particularly in his passing, movement, tenacity and work rate.

The amount of times he ran back to our half to steal the ball of the seattle players/make a tackle was impressive. You can tell he wants to be a success for us, i only hope we give him the support and tools he needs to thrive for us.

I actually think there were 2 reason's we gave it away so much, 1) we were playing out first pre-season game against a well drilled team that are half way through their season and pressed very well. 2) The artificial grass pitch. The ball moved a lot different than you would expect on a grass pitch and I think this was the main reason we lost the ball so often.

Yeah I agree about the pitch, that wouldn't have helped either.

I couldn't watch it, Jon Champion gets on my tits plus we're playing pre-season on a bloody plastic pitch what a smart move that is :banghead: plus it's painful watching us try and defend.

'Fraid not, i may try the mute button if the next game is on grass.

Are you saying we actually defended so well that we conceded just 3? :)
I am saying it is well worth watching not for the defending, but rather to see the like of Ceballos and co impress. The game was a lot better in the 2nd half as well.

Worth a watch, future looks bright for the young ones :D

Who cares acout defending in the first game back? They're just out there to stretch their legs again. You have unrealistic expectations if you thought we could just turn up on day one and be rock solid against a team that is mid season, fit and sharp.

I was confident in him tucking the penalty away! And after all those years of Defoe I think thats worth £25m :D
