I'd love Berbatov back this summer, for all his flaws he's still one hell of a player.

The time you posted this berbatov had more goals than defoe , and he finished with more aswell !!
Whats wrong with you ??

I'm looking at total goals, not just league goals. And I would imagine Berba got a lot more playing time than Defoe.

Berba had a decent season, no doubt. He's a better player than Defoe as well, no doubt. But if we signed him it means we can't sign somebody else, and I would much rather we signed somebody else than Berbatov.

I'm pretty sure most people would have agreed at the start of the season as well.

Would be fantastic if he was cheap and was happy to be rotated. Imagine having that sort of class to bring on. His age isn't going to stop him being awesome for the next few years.

Time to come home and help us secure top 4/win something. We need strength in depth and where are you going to get his sort of ability from for £5m? One of the biggest mistakes we made was letting him go to Fulham.

Dimi was a great player for us, but he held us to ransom over leaving for Man United. For that reason I never want to see him play for us again, just as I didn't Robbie Keane.

However, purely from a footballing point of view, despite his obvious talent I think we need a striker of similar size and stature whom just stays in the box. Berba is almost too good just to do that.

He is also far too lazy for AVB's preferred tactic of pressing high up the pitch.

The Man U thing was a long time ago though and we have grown as a club. This time he wouldn't be anywhere near our best player, and I think he would accept this.

When he scored for Fulham it was interesting that he didn't celebrate still, shows there is still some respect there.

I agree that he isn't as energetic as AVB would like but he wouldnt be the main man so I don't think this would matter and be hold up play is better than anything we have by miles.

I would have to disagree with you slightly. Playin style wise Berba is exactly what we need, he can hold the ball up, create for the likes of Dempsey, Lennon, Bale etc. Berba is the type of player that can play in any team wotever the formation quite simply because he is a great footballer. The one way he doesn't fit is his mentality, his mentality is what has stopped him going down as one of the greats. If he had of applied himself more consistantly he would still be at United.

While I would love to see him in a Spurs shirt again I would never resign him.

That is abit important don't you think? i mean its a vital ingredient...i mean take Ade,if he had any decent mentality he is exactly the type of forward we need, even more of a fit than Berba..imo...but they both leave alot to be desired in the mentality dept unfortunately and why i want neither.

In retrospect if you are comparing the impact Berbs had at Fulham vs the impact Ade had here them you'd have to wonder what we would have achieved with Berbatov up front. I would have had him back as our third striker. I think he ran out of gas in the end though.

Yes, as a stop gap before we can get a top striker. Had he been here and just scored as many goals as he did for Fulham, we'd be 3rd in the table.

I'd have said no because I'd have prefered a striker for the long term but if this cobblers about David Villa is true and we buy him I'd say WTF!!! We might as well have bought Dimi again, far better player.

I think Berbatov would've been a good option, but he wouldn't have wanted to come to us to be an 'option'.

At the time, we were tying up Adebayor, our top scorer of the previous season for the same price.

I think that's the biggest problem with all of these types of threads. Really, Berbatov at 5m is nothing when compared to Michu and Benteke at whatever they cost. But you simply don't know these things before they happen.

In Berbatov we have a guy who has already played for us then kicked up a fuss when he decided he wanted to leave.
In Adebayor we have a guy who has already played for us then said he really wanted to stay.

And at the same price, I think that Ade was, and is, the better option. It's turned out that Berbatov scored more goals, but not only could there be many factors to that (playing time etc.) but it was simply an unknown quantity at the start of the season.

He would have been a good option as a third striker but I'm not sure he would have agreed to that. Surely he could have stay at United as a third/fourth striker and would have won the league!

But did we "let him go to Fulham."? Is it possible, just possible, he didn't want to come back to us? Is it even possible that Levy didn't want him back? Or AvB? I think to say we "let him go to Fulham" is arrogance of the highest order. Sorry, mate.

No need to apologise Mon Frere. I believe that we are a more attractive proposition and I'm sure he does too regardless of what's gone on before. It is possible that Levy didn't want him and it's also possible that AVB didn't want him but that would fall into the category of "letting him go to Fulham" as we decided not to push for him. There is definitely a hint of arrogance to my statement but the league table doesnt lie.

anyway it's all irrelevant now but I hope that we go for him this summer.

It would appear Spurs were a striker short this season,... so the answer has to be "yes"
