Unfortunately some players just don't suit certain teams - Siggy is a good player and I hope he does well at Swansea. Great deal all around if we get Ben and they get Siggy!

SSN just showed him at the Liberty stadium (or Swansea's training ground-can't remember) for a medical- Hopefully, we'll hear something today.

Good luck to him. He's better than Swansea but I feel would never be quite up to where we want to be. Frees up some space as well, we had too many similar players so, whilst I'm sad for him that it didn't work out, I wish him all the best.

Sigurdsson's problem is that he played all his best stuff for Swansea just off a main striker and in all the time he was here we never played a 4-4-1-1 really. I'd place more blame on the people in charge for buying a player who didn't suit our system than Sigurdsson for not quite making the grade - his skillset doesn't suit being an orthodox midfielder or a wide attacker, so it was always a case of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

I'm sure he'll go to Swansea and do well again, as he's a good technical player going to a good technical side in a system that will suit him (he'll play off Bony now that Michu has left) and has a knack for scoring goals, which Swansea lacked from midfield. Don't think he'll be particularly missed, but it was just a poor match of player and team rather than any major failing on his part.

Brilliant post, couldn't agree more. There is a good player in there but not for us. He was signed in that period between Harry and AVB and I think Levy looked at the goals he scored and the cheapness of the deal and decided he knew best. Was not right for any of our managers and I suspect wouldn't be for Poch.

Wish him all the best but I like Chadli and Holtby over him as options even if we don't sign anyone else

Yeah I have bought a Sigurdsson shirt at the end of last season. Not the best idea judging it now.

But I wish him all the best and hopefully he can show his potential there. With us it is just not his level (for now).

And for now I am happy with players leaving the club as we need to sell to buy. Too many players.

Did you ever wear your Siguardsson shirt when running for a bus, missing it then falling on your arse...

Good luck to him. Popped up with some nice goals but he sadly didn't really fit into our system.

Hope he does well at the Swans, nice match up.

Yeah the fault for this was definitely Levy and his stats minions. They bought a mid-table Frank Lampard, a more refined Kevin Nolan. Hopefully this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

Good luck Siggy, always liked the lad.

Plus now he'll be worth a punt in my fantasy team as I would expect him to bang a few in for them.

Just wasn't a very well thought out signing in the end.

Sadly not good enough and anonymous in far too many games. Was out of position on the left but when we tried him at no10 he never set the world alight. The only exceptional performance I can remember is Norwich at home early on last season.

We were absolutely right to cash in considering our bloated squad.

I was semi-obsessed with Swansea that season because I was making Caulker performance compilations, so I ended up watching most of those games and never really felt he was truly played "off the striker".

I understand that at this point selling him is the right thing to do, but I wish we'd played him a bit deeper once in a while. It's true that on the team sheet he'd generally be "in the hole" of a 4-2-3-1 with Britton and Allen behind him, but in practice he actually usually played right of center and a little bit deeper. Swansea employed two very clear shapes when building up from the back and also without the ball, and both of them featured Gylfi drifting to the right.

Even if you watch this short highlight video you can see probably 75% of the time he gets on the ball and does something useful he's picking it up deeper and/or in the right channel. He has more time on the ball there, his lack of agility isn't exposed, and he can make use of his wicked crossing.

I think he's far far closer to being a player like Frank Lampard than anything else. I certainly don't consider myself to possess tactical knowledge superior to that of professional managers like AVB or even Tim Sherwood (okay maybe Tim Sherwood), but it still baffles me that neither of them ever really put Gylfi in a position to truly succeed. You would think the player was researched and watched plenty before buying, and it was blatantly obvious where he was finding the most joy for Swansea.

It was also obvious that he didn't have the agility to play as a winger or as a true #10, yet that's where we tried to deploy him constantly. And I still don't think he did that poorly in those uncomfortable positions.

I genuinely don't think this is a situation of a player just "not being good enough" ; I think he is good enough but he's just a very niche player who we shouldn't have bought unless we were planning on using him in his ideal position. I guess he did okay as a utility player who could fill in across midfield, but it was such a waste.

Sucks to see him go if only for his attitude. Switching clubs and dealing with playing out of position is part of being a footballer, but I still feel bad for him because I don't really think he was desperate to move. He probably would have liked to play more and in his proper position, but he also seemed perfectly fine with being a role player for a team challenging for European spots.
