Yep, Kane and Son are flat track bullies, sure in some ‘bigger games’ they have turned up against city and arsenal etc but they’ve also both been very poor in a lot of big games, perhaps they’re slightly overrated.

As you say a KDB etc has one off game in 10, Kane and Son have them mabye 3 or 4 out of every 10.

They need to do more but that is also why I think we need still a good 1-2 more quality attacking options
We probably do, yeah. Problem is getting that next level player.

I think most of us have a lot of faith in Conte but I'm not sure I have faith in some of these players to do it in a final if we reach one.

Some of the comments about Conte on here are shocking. Yes it was very bad tonight, and it’s puzzling that so many of our new signings don’t get a look in. But results wise he’s been delivering at a level we haven’t seen since peak Poch (who also delivered some appalling CL performances even in his best season - 16/17).

Let’s see how we respond against Leicester. We could be top of the league this time next week.
My only real Conte criticism is his sometimes baffling lack of subs (last season was understandable as we had none) and how rigid his system is at times, for instance how many times would you usually say okay Richy and Son aren't having a lot of joy so switch wings for 10 mins or so to give their opponent something to think about?
Yes there's strong merits to being rigid but there's also merits to having spells of free thinking.
I don't know what he's added since last season that seems to me to be having our players overthink, overcomplicate or overplay at times.

If wing-backs are that key then RWB should've been addressed in the TW (and I don't mean just with a homegrown prospect for the future) but with a proper EPL ready XI player as everyone knows that's arguably our weakest area.

I missed the gaa ad me but I’m assuming we lost because we were outnumbered in midfield and he refused to change it?

The problem is, i'm not sure Conte rates our squad other than first 11 + Richarlison.

I expect to see the same team again at the weekend. I doubt Conte rotates other than Sess maybe for Perisic.

We were unlucky not to have put that to bed well before the end. I think the FiFa game experts will change their tune tomorrow as it was clearly a 3.83 xg v 0.89 xg game. ?

Mistake was not putting on fresh legs. I'm looking at Bissouma for Holjberg and Spence for Emerson.
Agree about the subs. Spence had an exceptional season last year all be it in the Championship. He is a very good strong, pacy attacking wingback and must be worth a chance. Also Bissouma regularly controlled games for Brighton and should be integrated

Agree with this

I am actually happier with the performance in a 2-0 loss tonight than I was in the 2-0 win against Marseille

For an away CL tie against a decent footballing side who had beaten the Europa League holders 3-0 a couple of weeks back we took the game to them. We played some slick football through the middle at times and it was the front 3 and the WB's that let us down with final balls and finishing. Their 2 goals and Edwards's Maradona moment aside we were completely comfortable

Since our forwards have rescued us in otherwise dull performances this season I don't feel too worried about it (Kane and Son's general form aside - neither are near their best)
I don't worry about it for say 90% of PL games but I do worry about it in big cup ties or if we need to win a big game go top of the PL for example.

If we can't get a result against Sporting Lisbon we will do nothing in this competition.
Have you watched the CL before? Seriously, every year this stuff happens. We reached the final and lost to Inter and PSV. Real Madrid lost to Sheriff last season. Every team in the CL can beat another team, even the smaller teams quite regularly get points or win against the bigger ones.

You see arrogance against these teams every year, yet alone Sporting, who would see failing to reach the last 16 as a massive disappointment. But all this proves is the selective memory of fans and a lack of understanding of football tbh.

This was probably our toughest tie. Possibly Marseille are better, but probably not. Porto are a team who will be aiming for the last 8, considering theyve done it twice in the last 4 years, Sporting are not that far off Porto. Marseille on the other hand haven't been in Europe for a very long time and after PSG in France I don't think the teams behind are better than the big 3 of Portugal, who are all seriously good teams who expect to get to the last 16 as a minimum in the CL. Sporting, for example are probably around the same level of Inter and Milan in Italy, possibly slightly better. Marseille, we don't really know how good they are because this team hasn't been in Europe and has only very recently emerged as a force.

We as a team are, on paper, better than the likes of Sporting and Marseille but really not by a lot, and both of those teams can beat any team in the competition on their day. Because that's the champions League.

Ultimately, losing is a disappointment, the game was even, and a draw would have been a good result. At the same time we can't say we didn't deserve to lose but we continue. This isn't a catastrophe.

They say a sign of a good team is when you can play poorly and still get something, and this is very true.

However, when the poor performances become the norm rather than the exceptions then it’s a problem.

Something is definitely a bit off from us this season.

Whether it’s simply Kane and Son playing poorly, thus exposing our limitations as a squad, the system ( and opponents wising up to ways of countering it) or Conte pushing them too hard in pre season I don’t know.

Hopefully things start to click, but with the games coming thick and fast now, if we don’t start playing better there is no doubt that results will eventually start to turn for the worse.

Tbh the performance was honestly on par with the Marseille one, if anything it was a bit better. But it’s really tough when the front players struggle with touch and passing as they did in both games. The play between the lines isn’t consistently slick enough currently. It’s to be expected from Son who has never been good in this area, but Kane was incredibly sloppy in those areas where he is usually really good. Richy wasn’t much better. It is why I do think Kulusevski should really be playing more.

? this. I think he rates Bissouma too but yea otherwise don’t think he trusts many of the others tbh
