This is what made Holding’s red card so incredibly stupid, and why Arteta shares the blame.

The tactics they prepared were to press hard and get stuck in - which is a good strategy against Spurs, we tend not to handle that well. But when Holding picks up the yellow card - that should have caused a shift in tactics - as it related to Holding.

Now Arteta probably counted on his players to intuitively know when to back off, but when Holding got a warning from the ref after the yellow, it’s on Arteta and Xhaka to make sure Holding know to stay away from contact.

Holding never had the brains to shift tactics on his own….

The problem for them is they don't have many (or any!) good experienced players who know the dark-arts, or 'game management'.

It's one thing to tell seasoned pros like Chiellini or Bonucci to rough-up our forwards, but it's another to tell Mr Mediocre Rob Holding to get stuck into our world-class forward, Son.

They came out with their tails up first five or ten minutes but we snuffed them out and gradually took command. By the time the first goal came we all knew it was coming and there was really only one side who would get it. Top performance by every player and thoroughly deserved that win.
We weren't bossing them because Holding got sent off either, Holding got sent off because we were bossing them.
If we had actually tried we could have had another couple of goals but we didn't need to we stepped down through the gears and just played with them, after all we have a big game on Sunday.

Finally, special mention to Granit Xhaka, who is a world-class clown.

I remember someone on AFTV slagging him off a couple of seasons ago, saying that all he does in London derbies is run around like a headless chicken and then try to get a yellow card, to show that he's put a shift in against 'the enemy'.

Well yesterday he ran around like a headless chicken, with his silly ripped shirt and then when it was obvious they were going to lose the game, he gets himself a pointless booking in the 91st minute.

For the first time in my 60+ years of supporting Spurs I nearly felt embarrassed for Arsenal and their fans after Sonny's goal went in. They jut seemed to give up and go through the motions.

The morning after the night before. The difference between Davies and Holding was night and day. Both get early bookings, but Davies kept his head and didn't do anything stupid. Deserves massive credit for it. Would have been easy for them to target him to even the numbers.

Excellent atmosphere, and we need to repeat that again for Sunday, our players rose to it and the crowd definitely played it's part as the 12th man, it would be lovely to see the crowd that up for it again to really ramp up the pressure on Burnley and Arsenal especially with what's at stake and with it being the last home game of the season.

We all know what we have to do as players and fans. Rice and repeat COYS !

Yes, and it was a very clever substitution from Conte to bring on Rodon as knowing Davies was on a yellow card, as he must know for sure that Romero is out again for Sunday and we dont want the similar dilemmas to them at the back with being down to the bare bones for a back 3, as smart as the Son and Kulu substitutions knowing the game was in the bag and knowing it's a quick turn around for the Burnley game and we need that pair as fresh as we can.

Thought we managed the last half hour superbly and Daddy Davies alluded to it in his interview after the game.

We kept the ball, we were patient, we drained them out chasing the ball. We didn't over exert ourselves. It was a really top performance.

We'd all have loved to score 5 or 6 and I said to dad while we watched I want 5, I want 6, but when you consider we took Sonny and Kulu off, it was clever from Conte. The game was won and Sunday became more important than scoring another hateful.

But that's Arsenal fans in a nutshell.

They'll forget the 10 times that Xhaka should have been booked, meaning he should be walking a tightrope earlier. They'll forget the dodgy decision at Burnley a few years back. They'll forget the billion times they should have had a player sent off only for Wenger to state "I didn't see it".

I do tend to believe, luck favours the brave but they are literally one of the jammiest clubs in football and the amount of stuff that falls their way is crazy.

They have no right to complain when its the other way

Their fans on reddit r/soccer this season seem to have convinced everyone Xhaka gets sent off for nothing. It's become a bit of a meme "Xhaka gets sent off for that" at any little challenge. Even from other supporters.

I don't get it, he gets away with murder, another fabinho where he commits several bookable offences before he gets his first yellow

God this result is so much sweeter when you remember that Arteta tried to be clever by getting the game postponed due to a single covid case.

Guaranteed they would've had a much easier game against us back in Jan than they did tonight.

Beautiful to see his cowardice exposed. Would be incredible if they crumble and lose top 4 now.

The funny thing is for me-if he had played the fixture back then and lost. It wouldn't have meant we would be a point behind now. The paths would have been different for both teams. Games/form would have been slightly different because of that result , its never B&W.

And they would have had a week off before NU and no suspension or possible injuries or on the back of a defeat.

Agreed, when you consider we are miles ahead of them in GD it makes perfect sense.
