I have no issue with players passing the ball back when needed, and thought Hojbjerg had a good game, and a bit more disciplined. He held the CM with Bentancur.

But Bentancur seems a lot more aware of what's going on around him before he gets the ball. He often receives the ball on the turn and gets us moving forward.

I would love to see Hojbjerg do this more, as there have been a few times when he has received the ball with space in behind him to only pass the ball back to the defender. I think this is why (or at least me) people get frustrated with his backwards passing more than others as it kills off an option to drive forward.

When he is facing forward with the ball we know he can put in a few good balls, like the one to Kane. He just needs to go from back to goal receiving it, to turning to get the ball forward.

I agree and actually PEHs passing isnt and wasnt that bad. That chip to Kane where Kane should have scored and previously against Leeds that ball to Kane was superb. I just think as a whole it is a premeditated way of playing but certainly Bentancur is more of a risk taker and a slightly better player with the ball. PEH is better than without.

One thing is for certain though - I do think they complement each other and think thats why I get frustrated with the constant we need to upgrade etc. The back three complement each other. The two in the middle complement each other. The three up front complement each other. Really id spend all our money on a couple of top quality WBs and a few squad players. I digress though slightly

Rice is a baller, no way he stays at West Ham this summer.

He really is a good player and I didnt really appreciate up until this season that he isnt just a run at them type player but really competent technically. His face does always look like he just snorted a kilo of coke but if you can afford it and all that

Even if the ref didn’t see it, why didn’t VAR as it’s surely a potential red card?
Maybe he chose not to see it. Its easy for refs to ignore (be lazy) in certain situations knowing VAR can take the blame , as in this case.

Just caught a replay.

You can really see things coming together. Bentancour is making a huge difference, he really is such a class act. That along with the coaching is turning us around.

I thought we looked a far better side than them which considering league positions is a great sign.

Onwards and upwards!

We need West Ham out of the Europa ASAP. If they win it and an English club wins CL (highly likely)
Then 4th place goes into Europa. Only 5 clubs can go in the CL.
Tanguy needs to pull his finger out. Probably Barca await in semis if they do get past Lyon.
But all of the English teams left in the CL will also qualify from their league position anyway. If United were still in it this could be an issue but they aren't.

You have to laugh at some on KUMB referring to travelling over to our dump. What dump would that be? The state of the art stadium that we built.

Funny coming from a team that….
A) Don’t own the ground they play on
B) Is not even a football stadium, and
C) Is literally built upon toxic shit
And D) you need bloody opera glasses to see what's going on on the pitch

He’s a very good player but I thought he wasn’t great yesterday. I wonder what him and Dier were talking about at the end. He was very animated.
He may have been fatigued from Thursday, plus we had the better of the game. He was one of their best players yesterday, though. As someone said before, everything went through him. He is much better than people give him credit for.

Our off the ball movement is so much better, players always have options so I think even with high press we will get better at picking teams off.

Not to mention we have players who play forward.
It's very noticeable now that players are showing themselves to receive passes, when several months ago they just didn't bother.

Just rewatched the game, as others have said Bentancur was pure class. Romero and Kulu too. They've made a huge difference to this team.

PEH is also playing really well alongside.

We also need a top class LCB who is better on the ball than Davies. Pau Torres would be the dream.

Our wing backs are by far our weakest area. They urgently need upgrading, if we strengthen those two positions in the summer, and we bring in the right players, we will be a very good side.

Doherty just lacks ability on the ball and athleticism, despite him improving recently.

Reguilson I just don't think offers enough going forward, although has potential to improve.

But anyway, they both stick out in this side, as areas where the system desperately needs better players in those roles.
