Redknapp's half time changes today were superb and ensured we dominated the game. If foy wasn't so hopelessly inept, i think we'd all be singing his praises right now.

modric dive 9.5 (world class olympic diving there)

It was not a dive...he was kicked pretty hard in the shin. The human body works like that. He was kicked hard in the shin as he lifted his foot off the ground to take his next step, the signal travelled to the brain, travelled back again, and his leg went from under him.

In this instance, I really wish I could replicate it with you, so that you would know what it is like to be kicked like that in the shin just as you take your stride, and see if it doesn't cause you to fall - I would bet it would.

kicked really hard? eh? comeon it was a tiny knick on the shinpad if anything, and from the replays i could hardly see even that.

1st thought was blatant penalty all day long, followed by a wahey and a lil clap.

Hard kick or soft kick - the defender clipped him = a penalty (regardless if he went for a couple of 2nds later).

I was genuinely hoping he'd just lamp him...probably glad he didn't with highsight as god knows what sort of ban he'd have got!

assulting a referee = lifelong ban. So... good job he didnt.

It was a toe punt kick...like I said, I would like to have the opportunity to kick you on the shin with the same force, and see if you felt if was tiny.

Where do we start from that? Absolutely gutted we lost that, we made it tough for ourselves after a slow, sloppy start and the suckerpunch just before H/T, and then we picked up and played superbly, Chris Foy entered the scene and made it just that bit too hard for us.

I'm not going to join in the Stoke anti football chorus, they are what they are, we knew that and whilst as aesthetically pleasing as a bastard lovechild of Iain Dowie and Steve Ogrizovic they are fucking effective. They clearly spend a large majority of the time on the training ground working on set pieces and they are just better prepared than anyone to take advantage of them.

The problem was we allowed them to rattle us early on and get the opportunity to test us with the high ball into the box, we passed the ball sloppily and we let them have a chance of getting the ball into our box. Sometimes I just think you have to accept they are going to win the ball when it's airbourne, it's their strength, you just have to keep the ball and not allow them that opportunity.

After that we got hold of the ball, were still a bit sloppy but we dominated possession and territory and just couldn't find an angle from a team drilled to sit deep and suffocate the space. Tactically I think Redknapp was right to let Rafa play deeper where he could get the ball, as there was no space between the lines, he just couldn't find a angle, nor Luka. Not surprising with 10 men behind the ball, sat on their own goal line.

Second half the tactical change from Harry was inspired, Bale and Walker came into the game, Modric was excellent taking the ball from deep into the final third, VDV was busy but not quite 'on', Ade played with a leftward drift and was a real threat coming inside and after we got a goal back I could only see one result - cue the Chris Foy show.

Pissed off, but sometimes games like these you can tell how demoralising and season defining they are, and this isn't one of those. This won't push us off course, just a minor stumble.

Friedel 7 I'm not going to criticise him for the way he deals with crosses (i.e by letting his defence deal with them), this is the way he plays and Harry wants him to play as much as I would personally prefer the proactive, flamboyance of the octopus. Made some good saves, is an ultra reliable presence between the sticks.
Walker 7 A threat especially second half, one of the crosses he played was superb.
BAE 6 A couple of iffy moments, not his best 45 mins.
Kaboul 6 Ridiculous sending off, but why the fuck was he making a tackle there? He dealt with the crosses better than anybody though, but as much as he got Foyed, he brought it upon himself trying to win the ball there.
Gallas 6 I'm 50/50 whether you can blame him for getting beat in the air for the first goal, and maybe could have snuffed out Crouchy better. Otherwise he had a decent game.
Parker 6 A little subdued, lacked the bite he has usually given us, and a little bit of tick on the ball. By no means poor, and nearly scored a great goal. His forays forward were decent.
Modric 8 Early on he caught the sloppy bug, and did play a few uncharacteristically sloppy passes, but he led the second half charge, he moved the ball well, and quickly from deep and the skill for the penalty was sublime and Whelan knew he'd been done. I can forgive the few sloppy passes, what a player.
Lennon 6 He huffed and puffed, probably unfortunate to come off but the changes helped the team overall.
Bale 7.5 Excellent second half, played some great balls in and was a real menace down the flank.
VDV 6 He's never going to be at his effective best when the opposition play their CMs so deep they limit the space between the lines, where he thrives, but he helped keep the ball ticking from a deeper position, but didn't find a killer ball that he is capable of.
Adebayor 7 First half the ball didn't stick, second half he played exceptionally, scored a perfectly legitimate goal, nearly scored a blinder and was a real menace coming in from the left flank.

Bassong 7 Really good, defended well and used the ball well.
Defoe 6 Didn't really affect the game, but I think his presence when he came on helped us tactically as it gave Stoke an extra man to deal with in the final third and freed up space for others in the team.

We certainly deserved something from this game, but we and Chris fucking Foy contributed to our own downfall, a sloppy first 20 minutes from us, then a catastrophic 20 minutes from Foy. I think this will only be a minor setback, onwards and upwards.

Shelfie, that was a classic...'as much as he got foyed'

I agree with most of your ratings as well and I think you've hit the nail on the head, this is a minor stumble but in reality that second performance was very good and I was really pleased with our response in difficult conditions and circumstances.

I think the Spurs of Old would of been beaten easily today and would of gone out with a whimper.

Foy was significant but really it was just such a pity we started so poorly and the second goal right before half time was terrible timing.

I know its a cliche but when the big sides lose you can expect a performance and result in the following game normally.

It wasn't our day in all aspects, all sides have them, but what we want is another good run and today will be quickly forgotten (bar the Foy show)

I will be tossing (no sniggering) and turing on my death-bad, anxious relatives mopping my borw, mumbling "Chris fecking Foy :bang:, Chris fecking Foy :bang:".
