If we get him will be very interesting to see how we use him given he can play both centre back and right back.

Guess it’s also dependent if we then still go for a specialist right back (although we’ve not managed to shift either of our current two).

He's going to want to play for his country as Son does. Ok he'll miss some games but I can't see that as a reason

Can’t see Leicester being in for him, they’ve already added Vestergaard at the back, have they lost any defenders this year? I know Fofana is injured long term, but JV signed after that.

Yeah. They have 2 good RB/RWBs and about 5/6 players who can slot into a back 3.

The Leicester link surely died the second they signed Vestergaard.

This feels like a deal we are doing if Kane stays. If Kane goes, then we might fork out more for another option.

It’s dragged on too long for us not to have other options that we’re still talking with.

I could be talking bollocks, but maybe it's a cash flow thing? Seems like once Gil emerged as an option and Romero became a genuine possibility we put Tomiyasu on the back-burner?

There doesn't seem to be any real competition for him so maybe we're just biding our time and trying to get some more money in (either from Kane or other sales) before we spend again? Better to spend the Foyth, Toby money on deals that were more precarious and thus high priority rather than Tomi who seems like he's probably ours if/when we want him.

I doubt it. The Kane money will go towards 2 forwards and a centre back or midfielder. Tomiyasu should be signed regardless.

If they want to sign a replacement though we can’t leave it too late.

Not a ‘spirit’ the same thing happens every window… not once have we been prepared for the start of season. Titles and top 4 positions are easily lost in the first few games of a season.

It is this wish to use the past as some sort of template for the future that saddens me. We have already signed three new players (okay maybe not to address the areas many members regard as priority) and when was the last time you can recall Spurs being so constantly referenced and associated with this many potential new signings ? Things are happening and the window is two weeks away.

In consideration of the massive task facing Nuno and Fabio in rebuilding this squad and it's need to be done professionally and astutely I would doubt that Levy will expect a top four finish as a minimum requirement for this coming season. I would accept a top six as minimum and anything above that a huge bonus. Then 22/23 season we begin a genuine challenge for major honours with a team that has been well versed in the manager's preferred style of play and consists of high quality players carefully selected by Fabio to complement such a system. Lifting the Europa League in 22/23 would also consolidate our new status amongst the rest of Europe.
It's such a shame you cannot share the enthusiasm and optimism of many in here and continue to look back instead of forward. Come and join us, what have you got to lose except negative thoughts ? (y) :)

COYS !!

To be fair the links in the press and the level of player we are linked with is consistent with previous seasons.

As are the highest-level players apparently slipping away…
With all due respect we were never, ever going to attract the 'highest level' players with a 7th place finish last season and only Europa Conference League to look forward to. Personally I regard Fabio's ability to sell this club to Romero, last seasons best defender in Serie A and Bryan Gil who legendary Barcelona scout German Vaya, known as ‘Mani’, compared to Neymar recently as very impressive. Gollini was a masterstroke coming in as Hugo's successor and has already made a huge positive impression with the fans. This was never going to be a quick fix by bringing in the world's best because we don't have that level of attraction as a team - YET

Fabio and Nuno are building something that hopefully will last and mature into a major force within the Premier league for years to come. Then maybe in a couple of seasons it will be those 'high-level' players you refer to contacting Spurs instead.

My optimism refuses to lie down and may only be tempered slightly if I look at the squad on Sep 1st and don't see any more quality additions in between now and then. Tomiyasu would be such an addition.

This is for another thread so I’ll leave it after this. I’m not talking about world-class players writ large, but about players we have actually been linked to. Kounde, Martinez, and Vlahovic appear to be varying levels of off or fading. I’m not saying I’m upset or that I don’t like what’s happened so far, just agreeing with another post. Here’s hoping we see the FP difference in the final weeks.

I assumed that you were referring to Tomiyasu in your post and not our general transfer window dealings overall. Apologies for that.
