Does anyone remember Toda? Played under Hoddle. I remember against Utd in 2003.
Terrible player, in my worst ten ever. I’m sure that this kid will be an improvement !

What I really like about him is he very rarely does sliding tackles, he’s all about positioning and strength. Will hardly give any fouls away.

We'll soon beat that out of him. Lets hope he gets a work permit.

Yeah was proper shit. I think the training and development has improved massively since then on bringing up players. Back then you'd struggle to find many Asian Players in Europe but now seems to be an ever growing line.

Dunno, I mean they are from the same nation. Like Ginola and Stambouli… almost can’t tell the difference ?

For sure. Japan and South Korea both have quite a few interesting and talented chaps in their new generation of players. It's a shame with Brexit that we're unlikely to get any talents from over there in the younger years as they're more often than not unable to get a work permit.

What's Brexit got to do with getting talent from Asia?

The chance was already small for them to get a work permit prior to Brexit, now with the new harsher changes in work permits for players after Brexit it's almost impossible for them unless they're NT regulars or are already playing at a high level in Europe. Getting in an unproven 18-year old straight from Japan would be almost impossible if we're not offering massive wages.

Someone else likely knows the new system better but IIRC there's now a sort of points system where they account for transfer fee, wages, level in a different way than before.

Maybe we're talking about different players, but this lad is 22 years old and has 23 full international caps to his name already and has completed 2 full seasons in Serie A, and was named in the Asia continent team of the decade (2010-20).

Yes, we're not really talking about the same thing. My point was about it being a shame we can't get more of the new talented generation from Asia at a younger age, like Takefusa Kubo etc due to the new restrictions. We have to basically rely on them becoming as accomplished as Tomiyasu or Son (when he left Leverkusen), which usually proves to be vastly more expensive than bringing them in at an early age.

We don't need a cover. We need a reliable starter and leader.
What we need is good players for the positions where we currently don’t have many, so if this guy fits that remit then great, and he’ll start as a result.

We more than any fanbase should know that it’s not always about the biggest name or most experienced player we can attract.

fbref lists Ben Davies as one of the players most similar to him.

Before you overreact, that’s not meant as a criticism, I just thought it was kind of funny.

Dunno about that he had 4 yellow cards last season so pretty average for a defender, Dier only had 3 in the league last year surprisingly.
