Watching his showreel he never goes to ground. He tackles through a combination of positioning and controlled physicality. Compare that to Aurier’s show reel and it’s all athletic last ditch tackles and lots of sliding in.

That's so funny, I was watching presumably the same video and in the first minute or two I was thinking "man, he loves going to ground". Game of opinions I suppose

Clearly not the same video as he did not go to ground in the one I watched. Shows how these 'showreels' can be selective and misleading though.

Not just faster than Davies.

Also, as a matter of fact, three inches taller and two footed. Additionally, he looks to be more aggressive and dynamic; more positive with his passing; technically superior; and more of a threat going forward.
Agreed on all, but I’m trying to stop short of calling him a Japanese Ramos ?

Ah, fair enough. It was the one by Tiger666 on the last page.

Taking this here as it’s not discussion for that thread (thank me later):

Alasdair Gold said he’s seen as a right back signing in a Q and A yesterday and that his signing is intended to balance the defence as he is defensive while Reguilon will be the one who bombs forward?
In fairness that’s almost definitely opinion. Don’t get me wrong, he looks like he’d be a good signing for right back but I feel like Ally is assuming the rest because of his height.

Plus, in all Nuno’s teams, both fullbacks have bombed forward, and when it’s a back 4 is just means that he has a midfielder designated to split them, no different to Pochettino really. Can’t imagine this would change now.

Japan is in a group with France, Mexico and South Africa for the olympics. Being home nation they picked a strong side with hopes to win a medal. Here is hoping they dump out in group stage which would free him up after July 28th.

QF on 31st
SF would mean 3rd place on July 6th or finals on 7th.

Exactly, I personally think he'll be playing at CB. Mainly because hes a big dude and theres not much evidence to suggest Nuno will play a back 4.

Assuming you meant August for the 3rd place / final.

Even if they go out at group stage, he probably wont be stepping foot in England until mid August at the earliest and we wont see him play until mid to late September due to isolation & an abbreviated pre season cut short by the international break. So honestly it really doesnt matter whether he signs now or after the Olympics

Looks like a good option to add to our defence if we get him.

We have Regulion and Sess so it makes perfect sense to have a more defensive right back on the other side for balance. This is a transfer like Toby or Victor, it isn’t a big flashy one but could be really good.
This may seem a bit out there but how about having fullbacks either side who are good both going forward and defensively so you can attack and defend well down both sides instead of one
